FORT WAYNE, Ind. - An animal-rights group ruffled some feathers by handing out chicken-themed trading cards to children after school.
Representatives from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, including a person dressed in an 8-foot-tall chicken costume, passed out "Chicken Chumps" trading cards to Lincoln Elementary School students Thursday. The cards showed unhappy-looking children with names such as "Cruel Kyle," eating chicken.
Carol Mills, who walks her children home from the school every day, questioned the tactics of PETA.
"How mature are these people to come harass elementary school kids because they eat chicken nuggets?" she said. "Are they serious?"
Ravi Chand, a PETA campaign coordinator, said the oversized chicken accompanying him brought a message of caring and compassion to the children.
But school board Secretary Jon Olinger said an elementary school was the wrong place for PETA to spread its message.
"I think it's pathetic that they're aiming a political message at 8-, 9-, 10-, 11-year-olds," he said. "It's a professional terrorist organization as far as I'm concerned."
Olinger said he would not mind if PETA targeted high school students, but that trying to get at parents through young children is wrong.
PETA often stages demonstrations to push its message of better treatment of animals. The group's visit to Fort Wayne was part of a multicity tour, and the group picked Lincoln Elementary because it is one of the largest elementary schools in the city, Chand said.

I personally think this is great. This pathetic cult continues to marginalize itself more and more with each of these laughable little campaigns. The more their twisted views become apparent the less effective they become.

My wife is concerned about store-bought chickens too, how they're raised, the hormones, what they're fed.
Of course her solution is that we should get chickens and kill them ourselves (and get fresh eggs also)! I'm resisting only because I know who's going to have to take care of the damn things since our kids are still to little to help much.
It's probably a good thing to do since it will also show our kids where meat comes from so they don't grow up to be PETA pantywaists.

They NEVER adverstise where they are going to be protesting....I so much want to find out ahead of time where a protest is planned in my area so I can show up with my gas grill and give away free hamburgers.

And who would have to kill and clean the chickens, too? My wife is a very practical woman but if we got chickens, she would have them named before we got home and then there is NO WAY that we could eat them.

Actually, I find this incident kind of creepy. Kids get enough indoctrination by weirdos inside of schools these days without having to brave them on the sidewalks outside the building. When I was a kid (in a more decent world than this one) the local cop would have been chasing the big chicken down the street with his truncheon. Quite right too!
Hands off our kids, PETA perverts.

In the past PETA has handed out flyers at elementary schools with a picture of a cow on it and inside it said "Hamburgers are cows who have been taken from their families and killed."

Chick-Fil-A should send counter-demonstrators to follow the PETA freaks and trade free Chick-Fil-A sandwich coupons for the PETA trading cards.
