Exercise leaves El Al passenger with a gun

El Al places firearms in the suitcases of some passengers without their knowledge as part of a training exercise for security personnel.

The practice was exposed last week after a passenger returning to Israel from Frankfurt opened his suitcase to find a pistol that did not belong to him. After alerting the police, the passenger was informed that it was a simulated weapon used by El Al security in training exercises.

El Al is negotiating with the startled customer over appropriate compensation.

"El Al Israel Airlines uses various measures and systems to ensure passenger safety," a spokesman for the airline said. "Beyond that, the company does not comment on security-related issues."

Looks like (a fake) one slipped by El Al. A little embarrassing for the most secure airline.

Compensation? Give him a real gun equal to the "simulated gun"?

That would work for me.

The fact that this does not happen every day is a testament to their security.

Of course, everything about El Al is a testament to its excellent security.

Yep. I'd like El Al to arrange for a N.I.B. H&K P7 to appear in my suitcase and slip through customs.

That one is high on my "want" list, as well.

Perhaps after AWB sunsets.

AWB? Why?

Oh, you want an M13. Ever shot one?

I trust my life to the P7M8; the M13's grip has always felt like a 2X4 in my hand...

And concealing the M13 is like trying to hide a brick.

If you can't handle a situation with 9 and a spare 8, IMHO, you should be running -- preferably for a Mossberg 590...
