Ongoing Rebellion in Fereydunkenar! MOST RECENT PHOTOS FROM UPRISING:

The demonstrations began some hours ago. Fereydunkenar is a small town in the northern province of Mazandaran. The people attacked and were able to liberate a building used by the Islamic Republic's security forces (Sentry Post #2). They then started moving to the city of Babolsar, but were soon confronted by Mazandaran's provincial security forces. They've been pushed back into Fereydunkenar and the latest news I've heard is that the small town is now divided between the rebels and the security forces and the scene of fierce street battles.

At least 5 people have been killed and scores injured.

NOTE, THIS UPRISING IS STILL CONTINUING.

There was a story about some dispute involving Iran and nuclear inspectors, but nothing earthshaking.

Thank you Faludeh(isn't faludeh some kind of Persian ice-cream?) for your informative posts. My husband was born in Iran and he took me and our four sons to Iran a year and a half ago. Everyone we met were so disgusted by the regime. Even traditionally religious people (my husband has a few cousins whose wives wear the chador) are anxious for the mullahs to be run out of the government. But the mullahs and their thugs have done a great job scaring the hell out of the people.

If you recall, the revolution that brought down the Shah twenty-five years ago, started out alot like this. There would be a demonstration in some city like Tabriz or something and some people would get killed by the Shah's security forces. Then, after forty days (after the mourning period was over) there would be an even larger demonstration and more cities would get involved. More people would get killed and the whole thing just kept snow-balling. The difference now from then is that the mullahs are far more ruthless and won't hesitate to use maximum force to put the demonstrators down. The Shah just wasn't mean enough to attack his own people the way the mullahs will not hesitate to do.

The irony is that in the world's only Islamic Republic, the mullahs are in the process of destroying the people's belief in their own religion. When I was in Iran I saw many young people wearing a cross. At first I thought it was just a fashion statement, but my brother-in-law told me that many, many people were converting to Christianity as a repudiation of the regime. And this is happening in a place where it is a capital offense to convert from Islam.

I pray for these brave, brave people. I love the Persian people. They are some of the lovliest people I have ever met and they have a rebellious streak in them (behind closed doors they are rowdy, sensuous and fun-loving). Let's pray that they will no longer have to live double lives and may soon have the freedom they so badly desire and deserve.

That is when Persian people celebrate their new year or some thing like that... They like fire as a holy thing and gather around fire to celebrate the last wednesday of the Persian year.
Their new year starts 21st of March.

The Muslim New Year started on 21 February 2004. The year is 1425 Hijrah ( or Hergra calendar ). And I'm still writing 1424 on my checks.

Muslims have their own new year which is a lunar year. But Persians have their own special new year which is solar.
Do you know about differences between Arabs(Muslims) and Persians and Iranians???

I just guessed that with the Muslim fundamentalist takeover they would use the Hegra calendar because that's when Hadj and Ramadam ( the two holiest seasons in Islam ) are calculated. I know the people aren't the same. You learn something new every day.
The Persian New Year holiday called NoRuz ( NoRooz, NowRuz ) is on 20 March. I thought all of the guys I worked who lived in Iran for a few years would have mentioned it.

Ok, I think I figured out the significance of the time-- help me out here, if I'm wrong.
Tehran is +3.5 hours from GMT.
The Spring Equinox is at:(GMT) March 20, 6:50:54 AM
This translates to March 20, 10:20 am. Tehran time

So, it looks like the New Year begins at the Sping Equinox, right?

Thank you so much for your post.. Well you're right - and the major differences now are #1: Iranian people are much more tired and fed up with this regime than they ever were with the Shah's.. Reason is: Much of the anger created against the Shah was propoganda and brainwashing - sure there could've been more openness politically, but Iran had advanced so far under Pahlavis - but it could've been better.. Also: The US Didn't support the Shah in the End and helped for his overthrow.. This time it looks as though the US is going to support the side of right and the side of Iranian people, it's no telling where Europe will stand.. although they would be smart to support the Iranian people - because in the end, all business ties with a future FREE IRAN will reflect where the support for freedom did and didn't come prior to this 2nd revolution..

It's good to hear your story and yes - Faludeh is a desert and Faludeh Shirazi is a version of it.. It's the most delicious Iranian desert I think, but there are so many good deserts it's hard to rank... :)
