AAA Mid-Atlantic is warning area drivers to expect gasoline prices to reach $2 per gallon this summer as pump prices approached record levels yesterday.

The national average for regular unleaded gasoline yesterday rose to $1.74 per gallon, 1 cent shy of the record, according to the federal Energy Information Administration. In Washington, gasoline averaged $1.71 per gallon, 9 cents short of the $1.80 local record set in May 2001.

This country has only itself to blame. When was the last refinery built and how many more cars are on the road since then? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out deficit output. This can be blamed on all those environmental wackos who never saw a refinery they liked.

Very true.

And don't forget the knee-jerk reaction of all left wing liberals when it comes to energy.

First, they just lie. They always lie. They start every single argument with lies. They paint ANWR as some pristine wildlife refuge where all of our cute furry animals are sitting in green fields frolicking with each other.

Instead it's a freezing hell most of the time. In summer, it's nothing but a flat area filled with small water ponds full of nasty mosquitoes that, if the caribou bother to come that season, are infested with larvae in their skin.

Human existence at that time is almost impossible. Which is why they want to go during the winter and build ice roads that will melt away. Their footprint would be so minimal you couldn't see from the air easily.

But those little facts are ignored.

Second, their history of bad predictions that never panned out are never brought up. All of this garbage was brought up decades ago with drilling in Purdhome Bay and the pipeline.

Third, the left still demands energy independence but can't get their brains out of the toilet long enough to realize what it will take to do so. They won't allow nuclear, coal digging, oil drilling, offshore rigs, etc. But they instead throw out more decade old arguments about solar power and wind power (unless those windmills are off the coast of Martha's Vineyard and ruin a liberals view).

Does the fact solar and wind power has been proven inefficient stop them? Nope. They then whine about the R&D not being "fully funded" as if (usual for Dems) just throwing money at something will make it so for what they want.

But when it comes to something like missile defense, they can't spend a dime on it because, according to them, the technology is IMPOSSIBLE and will NEVER work. But wait, what if we "fully funded it"? Oh no, have to cut it so we can build hospitals and schools for "the children" that, if they had their way, would all have been aborted anyway.

Blame the enviroleftists for pushing for these government regulations on gas and making it more difficult for refineries to produce it.

Of course tests have worked and simulations show how well the complete system will work, but never mind that. The arguement that we don't have anyone out there who would attack us has fallen by the wayside, after we were attacked.

If the left really wanted to get off the oil standard, they would support clean upgraded nuclear power, (as was done recently by the former head of greenpeace). Nuclear energy is the answer to the leftist ideal of cheaper energy and less dependence on oil. (Also no seagulls damaged by wind turbines, and no waiting until fuel cells and solar power actually work in the marketplace.) But are they really thinking, or just trying to bring the US down?
