Mary Matlin was fabulous. Imus: "Do I believe Dick Cheney is a liar...no." That settles that.

It's a good thing.

Ya know, what was really going on was that Mary is allowed to speak on the Imus program without being interrupted by her lizard-like husband. She was lashing out at James, imo.

Its going to be a long week with posts that say nothing at all

I do wish I could read a transcript. On the car radio this AM I heard even Evan Thomas stand up for Cheney in response to Imus's stupid "lying Cheney" comments.

She lashed out at him for calling the VP a fat pig. Mary said that's unfair to those that are OUR age suffering from heart disease and that he's able to have a career and maintain his health, good esp. after Iman just got done talking about people suffering from illnesses and coping (Richard Cohen's book). Great timing from Mary, Imus then APOLOGIZED, knowing full well that he was a hypocrit.

Imus relies on biting satire to make his show interesting, which it is, but should not have his every utterance taken as gospel. He usualy makes his endorsements with tongue in cheek, just as he announces his allegiance to his sports favorites of the moment.
Even his brother, fred, gets on the wrong side of Imus on a fairly regular basis, so it is not wise to use him as a political barometer.

Smerkonish's show was boring this morning so I tuned in to imus just as Mary was saying good-bye. Sounds like I missed the fun. imus stated that he just got b-slapped and asked the others why they didn't step in to defend him. bernie mouthed out something about there being no point in arguing with Mary since it was obvious she drank the kool-aid. I then switched back to Smerkonish.

She definitely said what needed to be said for a long time now. As for Imus, in the end he still called Kerry "his guy" and said he would get W out of the White House. So that's where he's coming from. After Mary finished here segment, Imus announced that David Gregory was coming up. Of course I immediately switched. But I'm sure Gregory followed Maitlin with his usual biased report.

"I know you think that I take everything you say seriously. I have thought about this a lot. I listen to you every morning and I yell at the TV every morning. I even have my kids screaming at you. Whether or not you think that you are the real press, you do convey more real information and people speak in more real terms when they come on here. The people that listen to you and I don't mean opinion makers in this little isolated echo chamber talk to each other elitist town. I mean out in the real world, people who listen to you are the job creators and the community leaders. You have an influence. You have some responsibility to convey some true data. You need to get more nuance."
"Does this make you feel safer? In 1991 John Kerry voted against the use of force in Iraq because the coalition wasn't big enough. In 1998, he voted for the use of force with or without a coalition. In President Bush's case he voted for the resolution but the coalition was not as strong as the one his father had that he voted against because he said at the time the coalition wasn't big enough. Did you follow that? That's Nadia Comaneci on steroids."

I like Mary, but this morning when she appeared on Fox & Friends, on her initial introductino she was given a great 'opening' re the Kerry 'crook' comments. She was asked if "..Kerry's refusal to provide an apology" was a 'bad thing' or 'dissappointment' (cant remember the exact words) to the Bush campaign.
Now, this would have been a great oppty to 'keep the pressure on' by saying something like "THIS 'IS' A BAD THING for KERRY! HE HAS NOW, WITH HIS OWN WORDS, BRANDED THE NATURE OF HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN,.....", but no
Mary's immediate response to this openning intro, was to state something like "...our campaign will be about the economy, war on terror, yada yada yada.."
We are too 'nice', are people are not 'attack dogs' and never go for the jugular.
