"They cannot represent . . . the black people," he said. At another point, he yelled, "This isn't what the Rev. [Martin Luther] King would have wanted."

I didn't realize our banking system operated under what the Rev. King would, or would not, have wanted.

Besides, Minister, that's a horribly racist statement.

"It's not a question of black ownership, it's a question of banking."

At least someone there has some sense. The people there would probably be appalled if they knew who owned every company whose products they use. They probably don't subscribe to the MLK Jr. Book of Black Business Ethics.

Odd, the timing of that power outage. I heard of a company in Cary, NC, that was laying off employees. They called the ones about to get the ax into a conference room and gave them the bad news - effective immediately but with some severance pay. THEN, the terminated EEs were told to go clean out their desks and exit the premises. When they left the conference room, they discovered the whole building had been powered down -- had NO electricity. It wasn't restored till after they were gone, cypher codes were changed, and remaining EEs were told the terminated folks were denied access from there on out.

Why?

Well, I never did hear, but maybe so the axed (and probably disgruntled ex-EEs wouldn't go in and trash the computer systems?

OK, so this is not the same scenario for the sold-out bank patrons were dealing with. But did it play into the bank's hands to be unable to hand over money which is what patrons were there to demand?

As for the patrons saying "Chinese cannot represent the black people" MLK did want blacks to be able to patronize black-owned businesses. That does make sense in terms of the freedom to use the services of people who are like-minded to ourselves. (As a woman, when possible, I like to support woman-owned businesses.)
