Bush ads stop to tour 9/11 memorial on L.I.
New York Daily News ^ | 3/06/04 | THOMAS M. DeFRANK and KENNETH R. BAZINET

WASHINGTON - President Bush will visit a Sept. 11 memorial on Long Island next week after families of victims slammed him for using Ground Zero images in campaign ads.

Bush's visit Thursday will come a week after his campaign bought millions of dollars of airtime for ads that have come under fire for using the image of a Ground Zero victim's remains in an attempt to woo voters.

The unexpected trip is fresh evidence that Bush has taken a stiff political hit over the campaign ads, which also feature a shot of the burnedout World Trade Center facade.

Bush aides have claimed that they always expected the Democrats to criticize the ads, but one Bush official conceded yesterday that campaign strategists miscalculated the potential for controversy from the 9/11 footage.

"We didn't think we'd be playing defense like this," the official said.

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) said yesterday Bush should show more compassion toward the victims of Sept. 11.

"The President has said in the past that he would do nothing that would politicize this terrible tragedy," Clinton said. "I hope that they would be more sensitive going forward."

Bush's visit to the Nassau County 9/11 memorial in East Meadow will be followed by a campaign fund-raiser later that night, the White House said. Bush also will tour USA Industries in Bay Shore, aides said.

The unexpected trip is fresh evidence that Bush has taken a stiff political hit over the campaign ads..

I believe it's just the opposite. I think President Bush is demonstrating that will not allow the media, and their manufactured controversy, to alter his actions and decisions.

The Prince of Tides- Bush ads, Kerry ads, the Tides Foundation, and so much more...

I agree, if he was afraid of criticism, he wouldn't be going anywhere near the place.

The Teresa Heinz funded "survivors" have promised to make trouble at any 9/11 visits by Republicans.

fresh evidence that Bush has taken a stiff political hit
Claims that fresh evidence that "Bush has taken a stiff political hit" are precisely what you would expect to hear from Terry McAwful. In fact, I'd say that's exactly who you are hearing from--a fax from the DNC pasted directly into an "objective report."

I think you're completely right. I was surprised to hear he was going there in the very midst of all this controversy. What Dem politician would go from the frying pan to the fire like this? Voters will see through the Dem-manufactured furor - hopefully.

Let us not forget that CNN and their cronies used to read Saddam's press releases verbatin.

I wonder if we could freep the advertisers of the news shows?

I don't know, but it is so bothersome to me, I won't even watch Shepard Smith parroting the DNC talking points anymore, and probably won't watch the business block this morning. FOX will lose a large block of my viewership with this kind of intellectual laziness. Shep may be eye-candy, but NO WAY do I have to listen to more Bush-bashing disguised as news.

Exactly. They know that any reminders of the attack on the US, and President Bush's response to it, will be devestating to Kerry

In the interest of accuracy as to the content of this column, ahouldn't the newspaper's headline read "ADDS" instead of "ADS"?

THOMAS M. DeFRANK and KENNETH R. BAZINET...With Austin Fenner

It took three people to put this drivel together?

one Bush official conceded yesterday that campaign strategists miscalculated the potential for controversy from the 9/11 footage.

"We didn't think we'd be playing defense like this," the official said.

"Will you walk into my parlor?" said the spider to the fly. (We're supposed to believe a Bush ad team didn't check those ads three ways to Sunday? ha!)

The unexpected trip is fresh evidence that Bush has taken a stiff political hit [It is?!]

Bush's visit to the Nassau County 9/11 memorial in East Meadow will be followed by a campaign fund-raiser later that night, the White House said. Bush also will tour USA Industries in Bay Shore, aides said. [But Tomas, Ken and Austin told us a couple of paragraphs up that the trip is unexpected, hmmm.]

I want to be a journalist in the liberal media so I can write ficton too.

I wrote and posted this yesterday.

We Remember

We saw the look upon his face,
Through whispers he was told.
We knew he felt just what we felt,
We wouldn’t sit here cold.
We knew this time that we would act,
And not just turn our head.
This time we’d go and we’d go big,
We wouldn’t bomb some shed.
He called them faceless cowards,
He vowed we'll hunt them down.
We watched as he spoke to us all,
Sincerely, not some clown.
His eyes assured us he’d not rest,
Until they paid the price.
Yes we’d turn over every stone,
Until they were on ice.
He warned the battle would be long,
That many would forget.
That some would say, let’s just move on,
Not him, his mind was set.
We backed him then, we back him now,
The fight must still go on.
We can’t back down, we can’t let up,
Until the threat is gone.
God Bless our troops as on they fight,
Each day for them we pray.
We thank them all, for all they do,
“They are the best”, we say.
We will support our President,
He’s proven he will stand.
We’ll vote for Bush this coming fall,
We will protect this land.

rumor has it that he may "play for the other team".

He may have a personal reason to oppose FMA.

OF COURSE this is only a dark rumor I have seen here on FR. I have nothing to back that up. (other than his exhuberant use of camera makeup)

This, from the POS who lied about visiting with 9-11 families???

When the day comes that this unscrupulous, power hungry communist gets her comeuppance, I will fall on my knees where I stand and give glory and thanks to God.

If Heinz funded "survivors" and they are going specifically against Bush, then they have to register as a 527.
