7.62 is .30 caliber. As in .30-06, .308, 300 magnum, etc.

And the ubiquitous 7.62x51mm NATO caliber is essentially indentical and fully interchangeable with the the classic .308 Winchester civilian cartridge.

Which gets to the stupidity of this attempted law.
If they outlaw .223, they don't outlaw 5.56 Nato and visa versa
If they outlaw 7.62X51, they don't outlaw .308 Winchester.
Outlawing the .30X30 is mind boggling.
