Good thing he wasn't alive to see how Hollywood screwed up "The Grinch" and "The Cat in the Hat."

At my daughter's pre-school this morning another little girl shouted, "Happy birthday Dr. Seuss. You're dead!"

Say!
I like green eggs and ham!
I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!
And I would eat them in a boat.
And I would eat them with a goat...
And I will eat them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so good, so good, you see!
So I will eat them in a box.
And I will eat them with a fox.
And I will eat them in a house.
And I will eat them with a mouse.
And I will eat them here and there.
Say! I will eat them ANYWHERE!

I do so like
green eggs and ham!
Thank you!
Thank you,
Sam-I-am!

The temptation to play with "Sadam-I-am" for "Sam-I-am" is very hard to resist..

No, but his wife was. According to my morning paper, The Idaho Press-Tribune, no more live action movies will be made of Seuss books/characters. She basically said Cat in the Hat stunk. I've been reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish to my 4 month old. He likes the rhyme in my voice. Plus, Daddy gets to get around twisters that get my tangue all toungled up.

If you want to see another side of Dr. Seuss, I suggest "Dr. Seuss Goes to War." He was a cartoonist for some Leftist magazine in the days before WW II, and a fervent interventionist. Many of his famous characters had their genesis in those cartoons.

Do not be sad,
Do not be mad,
Be very, very glad!
Today is special for everyone
So celebrate and have some fun!
Dance with grinches, cats and moose
Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!!

I didn't like some of the sexual innuendo that they had put in the Grinch either, with the mayor having the "hots" for the Grinch.

Ooops I meant the Mayor of Who-ville's wife that had the hots for the Grinch.

Red feet, brown feet here come clown feet.

More, and more ,and more FEET, 24 feet!

Oh how many, many feet you meet.

My daughter knew the day and wore her cat in the hat jacket to school.

The wife recently related one of the things that endeared me to her when we were dating. We were having an argument and she burst out with, "I meant what I said, and I said what I meant!"

I couldn't help it, I said back, "An elephant's faithful, one hundred per cent!" (She grew up overseas; this little bit of Americana was not something people around her would have known.)

Thank you, Dr. Seuss!

I don't know about sinister background, but she was on the set of the Grinch and said Jim Carrey is a pottie mouth.

According to my morning paper, the current widow is his second wife. His first wife killed herself in 1967 with an overdose of pills. She was in very ill health. The paper says that he and his second wife developed a romance while they were both married to other people. Not the most noble, but it happens. It also mentions that Dr. Seuss, himself, was afraid of children. Didn't know what to do around them, or how to just play.
