Working Poor Worry About Losing Homes

BOISE - Idaho lawmakers are hearing from the working poor, who believe the state is threatening them with losing their homes.

The Idaho Community Action Network was at the Statehouse Friday protesting the lien law, that places a lien on anyone who doesn't pay for indigent medical care.

The group is trying to get the lien law removed from state law books. "The way the law is set up, " said Sharon Cayler with the Idaho Community Action Network "they put a lien on your property before they ever make a payment."

County government officials say the law is the only means they have to safeguard taxpayers and they're fighting to keep the lien law on the books. The proposal went before a senate committee late today.

If this is in regard to a Medicaid Lien, I believe the Medicaid provisions exempt the home from liens as long as a spouse or disabled child continues to reside in the home.

I was in a pretty serious (to the car) accident and an ambulance showed up. They insisted I get in the ambulance, but I refused. I could not believe how pushy these people were. I told them know. They would not go away, they then insisted I sign some form saying I didn't want to take the ambulance. I refused to do that to. Then they got the cop to tell me I *had* to sign the freaking form.

Medical treatment should remain a choice, but in our society it is not always presented that way.

If you didn't sign, you would have been arrested? Kinda sick.

"Sir, you are in dire need of medical attention - but if you don't sign this waiver, we'll lock you up" LOL.

Probably not arrested--but the waiver form is a priority if anyone refuses medical assistance. There usually needs to be 2 witnesses that will vouch that you refused to sign the waiver form refusing medical assistance.

It's all part of the new Medical Insurance lawsuit frenzy.

If you likewise insist on leaving a Hospital without being formally discharged, it's called a 'self-discharge' or "A.M.A.==Against Medical Advice". The facility is protecting itself against future lawsuits.
