President George W. Bush has slapped the face of conservatives and those who believe in God with his recess appointment of former Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th District, Constitution Party National Chairman Jim Clymer said today.
"Of all the people waiting to be confirmed for federal judgeships, it is stunning that Bill Pryor would be the president's choice for this extraordinary move," said Clymer.
Pryor prosecuted former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore for refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Judicial Building and Moore was removed from office in October.
"Bill Pryor was a professed Christian who had to choose between his Lord and his political career," Clymer said. "He chose his political career. By all indications, he was rewarded for prosecuting the Justice by the Bush administration which has been his behind the scenes opponent throughout his career."
At the close of the hearing that led to Moore's removal, Pryor asked him if would continue to acknowledge God if he were permitted to continue in office. After Moore affirmed that, indeed he would continue to recognize God, and that he was obliged to do so under the Alabama Constitution he had taken an oath to uphold, he was formally removed from office.
"Pryor will likely be a fine addition to a federal judiciary run amok," Clymer said. "Like many of his colleagues, he not only fails to recognize the religious principles underlying our laws, but is willing to ignore the Constitution which is based on them as well."
Clymer said the Bush Administration believes conservatives "have no place to go" in the fall elections, other than to re- elect Bush. "But voters do have options," Clymer noted. "We are providing the principled alternative of voting for the Constitution Party's presidential candidate, Michael Peroutka."

Unbelievable...people like this who have no clue should not be given access to sharp objects and word processors.

Appointment of a jurist who was unconstitutionally filibustered by the Democrats on account of his religious beliefs and who want to impose an unconstitional religious test on the federal judiciary is a slap in the face to religious believers? Un-freaking-believable!
To: MikeJ75
If this is the best the Constitution party can do, I pity them. Judge Roy Moore ignored the ruling of the Court and therefore was in contempt. Pryor followed the law. If the Constitution Party can't see this, they should consider dropping their name and consider another one, Maybe the Clintonese Party

I disagree in one respect: This spokesman and the people he speaks for are by no means major league. They aren't even rookie league.

Well vote for Kerry then and see abortions and homo marriage become legal. But you won't have to worry too long cause there probably won't be an America anymore time the UN gets through with us. But you can feel good that you made a statement. Too bad you have to bring the rest of us down with you.

This peice distorts two aspects of the Bush recess appointments.
First - Bush offered recess appointments to all of his appeals court nominees who have been blocked in the Senate. Pryor chose to accept the recess appointment at this time. He was not being rewarded for something.
Second - Pryor did not sit in judgement of Judge Moore. Pryor had taken an oath before God to carry out a job. He carried out that job as he was sworn to do. It does not reflect on how Pryor would have ruled if he were actually sitting in judgement.
This idiot provides ammunition to his oppenents who oppose conservative judicial appointments on the basis that they will impose their religious views on the law.

There's so much spin in that paragraph I'm surprised it didn't dig a hole in my screen.
