Good points all, and well said.
While I most identify with the Conservative movement of Judaism, there are definitely some aspects of halacha where my opinion deviates from that of the rabbis.
As much as I admire the wisdom in the Talmud, there are many opinions given within it that I do not agree with. Even the greatest rabbis seem capable of chasing their own intellectual tails now and then.
Thus I myself have no quarrel with the Karaites.
Ultimately, I am not answerable to a rabbi or anyone else but God. That knowledge guides me.
That, and my opinion that if Abraham (or any self-respecting Jew) can argue with God, I can at least argue with a rabbi. ;^)
