Greenfield: Kerry Has Unbeatable "National Defense & National Security Record
IMUS | 02/18/04

Posted on 02/18/2004 5:17:01 AM PST by Williams

Jeff Greenfield on Imus this morning was discussing Edwards' chance of beating Kerry. Greenfield said repeatedly that Edwards lacks John Kerry's experience and record in the "National security and defense areas." He also said Kerry has found the way to exploit this against Bush, such as by saying "I know something about aircraft carriers, for real."

Democrats are so truly delusional (and deceitful). Kerry's record is one of slashing defenses, and he still believes the Cold War was a terrible mistake. So they obviously plan on saying the two months in combat is the same as a great "national defense" record.

It seems preposterous to me that Kerry knows more about aircraft carriers when President Bush has been leading the military (including aircraft carriers) around the World. It is also presumptuous to assume Kerry has somehow beaten Bush on the national security issue. I think the polls say just the opposite.

Imus was challenging Greenfield on whether Edwards served in Vietnam. Greenfield immediately said Edwards is 50, and "I believe the draft was ended before he became 18." Maybe, but I am 48 and the draft was ended just before I turned 18. Also, that would have nothing to do with volunteering, would it? In fact, Edwards would have a slightly better situation if he was subject to the draft and would have gone, but just didn't get called.

It was striking that while they criticize President Bush, the democrats and reporters (same thing) are so quick to assume a reason for why Edwards didn't serve. And of course it's a reason with no logic behind it.

Kerry

I thank you for your service,
Way back in Viet Nam.
But that is no free ticket,
To let you pull this scam.
You spit upon our nation,
Betrayed our young brave men.
You called them baby killers,
It’s not true now, nor then.
You sir are just low life scum,
You prey upon rich chicks.
I hope Teresa sees the light,
And dumps your bag of tricks.
I’ll vote for Bush this coming fall,
And pray that you don’t win.
For if you win, we all will lose,
Our freedom will cave in.

After Kerrys defeat, in his next senatorial bid, he can go to France and run for office.

After all, isn't France where most anti-American Americans go?

Hahahaha. He has voted against almost everything that was in the interest of "national Defense" over the years except for his vote on involvement in Iraq and he is trying to backpedal his way out of that.

He was talking to David Gregory when he brought up the thing about Edwards not having served in Nam. Maybe he did it with Greenfield earlier too? There was no point to it, imo.

My husband is 50, and he enlisted in the Navy - and the draft was still in effect.

I'm sure Edwards had a student deferment, and I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is the press being so incredibly unaware of the fact that Edwards is plenty old enough to have served.

What do you expect Hanoi John to do, advocate a strong America? No way.

John Kerry is on the record saying America is the criminal.

As long as the subject has come up, the below link might be helpful: (BTW, Edwards was born on 10 Jun 53)

http://www.sss.gov/lotter4.htm Edwards was suject to the last of four lotteries held and had a number of "89." According to the info on the link, no one was inducted from the last lottery.

You're right, he could have enlisted or volunteered for the draft, but that is another issue.

Why is this so shocking. A Democrat does not believe what his voting record shows, he believes what he says he believes. At least, that is how the main stream media reports it. Soon Kerry will be back to supporting the Iraq War and the Patrior Act. Of course, the main stream media will be all over reporting the contradictions. . NOT!!!

Greenfield?

This is the guy who in 1988 said of Dukakis' Massachusetts: "If this is socialism, socialism works."

It's image and perception, and the sad thing is that in 2004, image and perception often trump reality.

"I know something about aircraft carriers, for real."

So......how cum nobodys said...oh yeah, what aircrarft carrier were you on? If he lies...and says he was on one (I'll bet $$ he's never been on one) then we could find several sailors who whould say I was on that carrier and I never saw jfingk. Hell....I would remember if lurch showed up!!!!

How does an ocs 90day wonder who spent exactly four months in vietnam on a river boat have any experience with a carrier???? I want to see proof!

I got my draft notice in May, 1972.

How old was Johnny Boy then?

According to his bio, he was born in 1953, no month or day.

So if he was born on 12-31-53, he would have been 19 in May, 1972, old enough to be drafted.

So, what did you do in the war, Johnny Boy?

Off topic here, but I heard IMUS say his wife is supporting Sen. HeinzKerry now. Maybe that is why IMUS has jumped on his band wagon.
