Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 10:25 PM EST Gen. Giap: Kerry's Group Helped Hanoi Defeat U.S.
The North Vietnamese general in charge of the military campaign that finally drove the U.S. out of South Vietnam in 1975 credited a group led by Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry with helping him achieve victory.
In his 1985 memoir about the war, General Vo Nguyen Giap wrote that if it weren't for organizations like Kerry's Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Hanoi would have surrendered to the U.S. - according to Fox News Channel war historian Oliver North.
That's why, he predicted on Tuesday, the Vietnam war issue "is going to blow up in Kerry's face."
"People are going to remember Gen. Giap saying if it weren't for these guys, [Kerry's group], we would have lost," North told radio host Sean Hannity.
"The Vietnam Veterans Against the War encouraged people to desert, encouraged people to mutiny - some used what they wrote to justify fragging officers," noted the former Marine Lieutenant Colonel, who earned two purple hearts in Vietnam.
"John Kerry has blood of American soldiers on his hands," North said.

Vietnamese revolutionary and government minister Vo Nguyen Giap joined the Communist underground against the French in the 1930's. He was responsible for organizing the Viet Minh into a fighting force capable of defeating the French at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. Giap served as Defense Minister and commander of the North Vietnamese army. After several military setbacks, including the Tet Offensive and the Easter Offensive, Giap was replaced as commander by Van Tien Dung; in 1980 Dung also took over the Defense Ministry role.

Who was mentioning Kerry's anti-war activities while he was still on active duty?

This might explain Carl Cameron's comments a little while ago about the Kerry Camp sending out word to BACK OFF the AWOL charges against Bush

Guys, I hate to tell you, but most of America doesn't care. We have a generation of young people who believe that the anti-war protestors during the Vietnam war WERE RIGHT. Many will see Kerry as heroic here...if they weren't gonna reject Clinton for being a draft dodger, what makes you think they are going to reject a "war hero" for being even more strident?
We will have to win voters over with other reasons...

After several military setbacks, including the Tet Offensive...
Most don't get it, but this is true. Tet was a disaster for Giap, but it's always portrayed as a North Vietnamese victory by the media. One account I've seen (sorry don't have it at hand) even posited the theory that it was a cynical North Vietnamese attempt to wipe out the Vietcong, so as to leave the NV with no post-war competition.

We will have to win voters over with other reasons... As I agree that we will win on other issues .. but this does play a part in the whole picture
Yes the Vietnam war was bad and yes many protested against the war
But Kerry and others didn't just protest against the war .. they attacked and accuse our soldiers of horrible things.
Top that with his voting record and speeches as an elected offical and it says that Kerry is not a friend to americans

But before it could be used against Kerry we have to make sure it really is true and look at the context in which this Giap guy said it in. Otherwise it can come right back and bite us.

Maybe because those young people now see their contemporaries standing between them and evil and they understand how despicable Kerry's behavior was during Vietnam? Now he babbles about the Band of Brothers who will support him - then he stabbed them in the back, lying to Congress about them etc.
Hopefully in these different times, young people will understand just what that means to break faith that way.

At least it is not plagiarizing, as it did by reporting the existence of the Kerry-Fonda photo, without attributing the Freeper whose research unearthed it.

A lot of young people are foolish, but not all are.
Furthermore.....The majority of middle-aged people (they vote), who also fought in Vietnam, draw the line when it comes to Jane Fonda. Let Kerry's association with her sink in and all bets are off.

Money Quote.
But will the RNC use it? That's one thing about the Democrat Party, they know what they are playing for.
If so, say "Good night," JFK.

Seriously, this is big news. I hope the White House already has the commercial ready. Of course, this will only help Kerry with his rabid anti-American base, but will help Bush with the rational thinking voters.

We already know Kerry has people trolling this site. Thanks to Kerry's lunacy some Freepers have been doing some deep digging and come up with some pretty ugly stuff. Now he wants his folks to back off the AWOL business. Too bad. The idiot put it in play and it is going to stay in play.

We have a generation of young people who believe that the anti-war protestors during the Vietnam war WERE RIGHT.
We also have a generation of young people 18 - 29 that right now support the Republican Party by some 62% if I remember correctly..... This was in Roll Call I think but I failed to bookmark it.... It also pointed out that for a democrat to win the presidency he had to win that group.
