I've watched that video over and over. It is difficult to tell but it looked like he had something in his right hand. Perhaps a knife or screwdriver.

I seldom let Caitlin out of my sight, but I know as she gets older she will want off of my apron strings. I have told her to yell things like "Fire!" and "You're not my dad!" if anyone tries this with her.

I have told her to scream, bite, hit and kick and to RUN the minute she gets a chance.

I have told her, "Your job is to live and get away. Period".

Hope we never have to test it!

His attack was a shock to her. No one can predict how they'll react to an attack. No matter how much training in self-defense a person can have, if an attack comes out of nowhere...the mind can go numb from shock.

When I was 11 years old I ordered a stiletto through the mail, from the back of a boy's magazine. It was what was called a "gravity knife" in those days--it had a button to release the blade, and you whipped it open and downward, with gravity doing all the rest. My parents knew I carred it, and didn't care. Had someone tried to snatch me the way that girl was snatched, he would have gotten that knife in his gut or his eye. But you can't order knives that way anymore. And a kid carry one? Horrors!

I've wondered the same thing. We MUST get our young people to learn they have to kick and scream at the very moment they fear a stranger! Way too much evidence that this is the right thing to do!

Never happen until we get rid of the virulent Dems who won't let conservative judges be apointed. That is one of the BIG issues which is not even on the radar with many Americans. Many rail about liberal judges but can't seem to connect the dots between voting for Dems and keeping conservatives off the bench.

Have your daughters read "Strong on Defense" by Sanford Strong. I read it with my daughters. His point is not to wait until the ideal time, start putting up a fight immediately. Things will only get worse if you wait.
