USA lied about Iraq's weapons

A US-based Norwegian weapons inspector accuses the USA and Secretary of State Colin Powell with providing the United Nations Security Council with incorrect and misleading information about Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), newspaper Dagbladet reports.

Joern Siljeholm, Ph.D. in environmental chemistry, risk analysis and toxicology, said that the USA's basis for going to war is thin indeed, and called it a slap in the face to the United Nations weapons inspectors. Siljeholm told Dagbladet that Colin Powell's report to the Security Council on how Iraq camouflaged their WMD program was full of holes.

"Much of what he said was wrong. It did not match up at all with our information. The entire speech was misleading," Siljeholm said.

Asked if the Americans lied, Siljeholm said: "Lie is a strong word - but yes, the information Powell presented about Iraq's nuclear program was simply incorrect," Siljeholm said.

"We received much incomplete and poor intelligence information from the Americans, and our cooperation developed accordingly. Much of what has been claimed about WMDs has proven to be sheer nonsense. From what I have seen they are going to war on very little," Siljeholm told Dagbladet.

After 100 days in Iraq, Siljeholm, now a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, is on holiday in Florida with his family.

"I strongly doubt that the American will find anything at all. In any case I doubt that they will find WMDs that constitute a military threat," Siljeholm said.

Siljeholm said that his thoughts are now with the Iraqi people he met, and who cooperated with the inspectors.

"It is a weary country with many weary people. The people want peace," Siljeholm said.

Wow, I can see why this guy is an expert in international affairs.....This guy doesn't even seem to have a clue as what the basis for going to war was, or he is simply misleading us by acting stupid.

Time to pull out of the UN, then we wouldn't have to give people like this guy any reasons at all for what we do.

The existence of these weapons was merely window dressing as a pretext to war. The problem was that Iraq was not in compliance with the inspections program that they had agreed to which would allow the U.N. to monitor the situation. Without unimpeded inspections the U.N. inspectors could not verify compliance with the disarmament terms. In fact, Kay has testified that Iraq was not in compliance on the disarmament terms either. The only sticking point is that weapons of mass distruction, the window dressing, have not been located subsequent to the war.

Of course our liberal friends will not allow that fact to go unnoticed even though they gave a pass to Clinton in the Balkans over the claims of hundreds of thousands of victims of genocide, which, BTW, has been found in Iraq.

Well I am really weary of those who would neither lift a finger to help not shed a drop of blood to attain freedom sticking thier self-righteous noses in to other people's business. One of these days they just might get thier noses bit off!!

Welcome to the forum. So I assume, since of course you would not in any way be hypocritical, that you also accuse President Billy Clinton, Sec. Bill Cohen, Hans Blix and a host of others of lying?

I wonder if he thinks Iraq was better under Saddam and if he realizes the sanctions coming off would have let Saddam reconstitute his programs..

The same weapons inspectors that discovered many WMDs and publicly stated that not all were accounted for?

Isn't this, the U.N., the same organization who believes that Lybia has the stuff it takes to chair the UN Human Rights Committee.

Tell ya what UN- if you ever start making rational and logical decisions, I may listen to something you have to say.

And clinton lied, and Kerry lied, and Ted Kennedy, and France lied, and Germany lied, and the UN lied, and Israel lied, and Russia lied, and countless others lied.

But good old Saddam, that pillar of humanity and integrity, told the truth.

Yea, right.

1) I have already had the UN discussion - reconstruct or scrap it.

2) Ranting lefty? Probleme is it´s real easy to wave him of as a ranting lefty but if you look at his previous work at Storbrand and Concawe I am not as sure. He is an environmentalist for sure and I guess you could squeeze him in the defenition but lefty....?

http://web.mit.edu/cis/Bios/Siljeholm.html (his cv)

3) WMD/Iraq My personal view is that it´s a none-issue. The war is over, Saddam is out. I supported the ousting of him and that alone could justify the conflict. But to be perfectly honest I was and still am not certain of the WMD reasons given. I guess it does not make much sense but it was sort of the right war but for the wrong reason.
