Pass the Energy Bill By Sen. Malcolm Wallop (R - WY) Ret. February 3, 2004

With the holiday season behind us, the US Senate returns to Washington to continue their pre-holiday arguing over the House-passed Energy Bill.

Unfortunately, the bill was stalled, primarily due to a common-sense provision which would rein in the out-of-control elements of the trial bar and protect manufacturers of MTBE from outrageous efforts by trial attorneys to score a payday. Legislators need to understand that, contrary to the screaming and inaccurate rhetoric from those who want the provision removed, the provision does not protect ANY industry, company or individual who actually bears responsibility for leaking materials that pollute our waterways. It WILL, however, protect innocent parties and industries (such as MTBE manufacturers) from complete destruction at the hands of trial lawyer lies.

The energy bill is a monstrosity. All ethanol and no ANWR.
