This week's "Dumbing Down" Award goes to the NEA. (That's the National Education Association, but the same applies to the National Endowment for the Arts.) Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author David McCullough, past president of the Society of American Historians, told a Senate panel recently, "We are raising a generation of people who are historically illiterate and ignorant of the basic philosophical foundations of our constitutional free society." He noted that only three colleges in the United States require a course on the Constitution in order to graduate: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy at Annapolis and the Air Force Academy. "We need to know the Constitution, and we don't. When you have students at our Ivy League colleges saying they thought Germany and Japan were our allies in World War II, you know we've got a very serious problem." Of elementary, middle and high school history textbooks that embrace multiculturalism and cultural equivalence in order to be politically correct, McCullough said, "They are deadly. It is as if they were designed to kill anyone's interest in history rather than encourage it. And if you were told you have to go home tonight and read this book for two hours, you would say in your heart of hearts, what did I do wrong today that I'm being so punished?"

And it's no accident. This generation will make much better Serfs as a result.

-Add prescription coverage to an already bloated system. - Stops AARP's support of the Democrats. I can understand that.

-Guest workers - Aids in the Hispanic vote and takes away a large, growing (now even more) demographic to the Repub camp. I can understand that.

-Increase funding to the NEA, a good place to cut for social and economic reasons. ???? huh I don't understand that.

I don't like any of these. I don't like the direction we are headed with these. Each one more Liberal than the last. Even if he does the NEA thing the way they would want, he still won't make any friends with that crowd.

I will still vote for Bush, as the security issue to me is too important to leave in the hands of idiots. I just won't support him as much and I won't contribute any more to a party that I am beginning to suspect is losing its foundation. What's up? Are we to expect more if he wins in a landslide? Conservative?

Do you think $15 an hour is excessive. People who make minimum wage and try to raise a family end up being subsidized by the rest of us anyway

You say the media is liberal. I believe Rush is part of the media. I what he did is so understandable let us work to change these unjust laws he broke. Rush is not running for office and his ratings are not suffering so what harm have the investigations done him?

Outrageous spending ridiculous policy proposals like his space initiative and immigration policy. Good lord how bad does it have to get before we say being a republican is more than saying that is what you are.
