Kashmir - 9 year old boy rescued from captivity 3 civilians, soldier killed

JAMMU, Jan 27: Three civilians, two of them women, and an Army jawan were killed and another jawan was injured in the separate militancy related incidents in the Jammu region since last evening. Army also rescued a boy kidnapped by the militants and destroyed a hideout in Gool.

Official sources said a group of militants opened firing on a joint patrol party of police and security forces at village Malhan in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district late last night. The firing was replied by the security personnel.

In the heavy exchange of firing, an Army jawan was injured while a woman Atra Bi wife of Ghulam Hassan, a resident of Malhan, was killed, the sources said, adding the militants managed to escape.

In the morning, a number of villagers took the body of Atra Bi to Surankote and blocked traffic on Surankote-Poonch road in protest against the killing. Local officers of civil and police administration besides the security forces officers talked to the protesters and persuaded them to lift the road blockade.

The villagers agreed and took the body to Malhan for the burial.

Another woman Nazir Bibi wife of Faqir Ahmed, a residents of village Niyara near Bambal Majra under the jurisdiction of Dharamshal police station in Rajouri district was killed by the militants in his house last night.

Two militants, who killed the woman, escaped in the darkness.

An Army jawan was killed last night when a patrol party was ambushed by the militants at Chamradi Gali near Shahdara Sharief in Rajouri. Army soldiers retaliated but the militants escaped, the sources said.

A civilian Farooq Ahmed Sheikh son of Abdul Gaffar Sheikh R/o Chatroo, Doda was shot dead by the militants in his house last mid night.

A police party visited the spot today to investigate the reasons behind the killing.

Meanwhile, Army and police today arrested a suspected militant during a search operation at Rajdhani, Thanna Mandi in Rajouri. He has been identified as Abdul Aziz son of Haneef R/o Rajdhani.

One pistol, one magazine, 38 rounds, two hand grenades, one remote control device, four detonators and a LPG cylinder were recovered from the possession of arrested militant, the sources said and added that questioning of the militant is going on.

Army today rescued a minor boy, Gafoor son of Shafique Mohammad R/o Prankote from captivity of the militants after more than four months of his kidnapping at village Ladha in Udhampur district.

He had been kidnapped by a Hizbul Mujahideen militant Salamuddin of Prankote on September 15 last year and was being forced to undergo training of weapons and use of radio set despite the fact that he was only nine year old.

The Army has handed over the boy to the local police.

Security forces have busted a hideout of the militants in Gool and recovered four AK magazines, nine rounds of AK and four rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
