Giant NFL players admitting they feel threatened by crime? This hardly fits their tough, macho image. Our concern is supposed to be for women walking alone at night.
But while the massive size and strength of NFL players might seem to make them unlikely victims, their wealth and high profiles nonetheless make them targets for violent criminals. Yet, crimes against professional athletes don

John Lott is brilliant as usual.

T.J. Slaughter expresses no regrets for having a gun despite running afoul of political correctness and being cut by the Jaguars. He said. "I believe legally owning a gun is the right thing to do. It offers me protection. I think one day it could save my life."Having criminals know he has one, or even thinking he might, may have already saved his life. Kudos to him for not being PC.

Something else to think about:
If any of these large, powerful atheletes got in a physical
altercation with someone, and ended up beating the $hit out
of the attacker, they would probably still be in as much, or more, trouble than as if they had shot the attacker.

The NFLs official advice: In some circumstances, such as for sport or protection, you may legally possess a firearm or other weapon. However, we strongly recommend that you not do so.Just one more reason I'm glad I quit watching the NFL altogether.

John Lott is brilliant as usual. Ditto. His writing is always well documented and hits the nail right on the head.

Bobby Knight carried a gun? Not a good argument for our side, even though he hasn't shot anyone...yet.

Why should the NFL be any less politically correct than the rest of them?

I stopped giving to the United Way about 20 years ago in favor of specific charities and Christian frontier missions. One charity in particular is a United Way participant but I do not like feeding its infrastructure that support the abortionists and the like.

The [liberal Chicago] Tribune described players owning guns as a problem [that] persists.
Typically, the liberals are working to keep a predominantly-minority group disarmed.

Thats right you have to remember to do the snivel...guns are bad mmmkay...
Honestly if some punks rushed me into my house while my wife and son were sleeping to rob me the only part of 911 I would think of is the last 3 numbers of in colt 1911...230 grains of "what the hell were you thinking" each time I pull back the trigger...

If anyone should be packin'...its the refs....
When I lived in Green Bay and visited local sporting goods dealers...it wasnt unusual to see
some GB Packers picking out heat...
Couple of my buddies worked in Martin Hardware on Mason St. and had some great tales of famous Packers
buying matching Smith 629s (44 mags) and other high end pistols...and even "assault rifles"
More than a few members of 'The Pack' are also avid fishermen & hunters...
Isn't freedom and the God given rights of the first and second ammendment just amazing things....(for the elite to allow common men & women to possess- smirk)...thanks to the sacrifice of veterans, their families other patriots and their shed blood for it...
And thanks most of all a loving God...whose patience is long suffering...but limited

Your error was making "Your Reply:" "*bang_list" what should have been the addressee, i.e, it should have been addressed to *bang_list, with Your Reply of BANG or a more informative comment. I make a public correction only to help others, not to tell the FReeper world about your error. The Lord knows we all make errors. Adios

"about 45 percent of Americans generally own guns"
assuming this statistic is accurate, let's do a little thinking.
About 25% of our population is too young to own guns...
About 5% cannot legally own guns due to convictions of one form or another, so don't show up on surveys as gun-owners...
Damn, that means that 45/70 or almost two thirds of all adult law-abiding American citizens own at least one firearm.
That... that just gives me a warm tingly happy feeling all over :)
I don't care about the rest of the article - that 64.5% rate of gun-ownership just made my whole day.
