I Met 3 Heroes Yesterday...Vanity

What a great day yesterday was. Part of this week I was assigned to augment Secret Service with dignitary protection as the Safari Club International was in town. While working the assignment on Tuesday evening I had a chance to briefly meet Lt. Col. Oliver North, to shake his hand and thank him for his service to our country. That was neat but today was the best.
Yesterday morning I was able to meet and shake hands with the 41st President of the United States, President George Herbert Walker Bush. I thanked him too for his lifetime of service to our country and got my picture taken next to him along with the rest of the detectives that worked the detail.
That afternoon, as thanks for a job well done, a photo shoot and greeting was arranged inside the Convention Center. When we arrived, I was introduced to Col. Alexander Lemberes, CO of the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam from 1969-1970. When I thanked him for his service he began to choke up and thanked me profusely, telling me that he doesn't often hear it.
Shortly thereafter, I was introduced to General Norman "Stormin' Norman" Schwarzkopf, CinC US CENTCOM during the 1st Gulf War. I was able to thank him as well and get my picture taken with him. While I was at it, I apologized for not having his book handy but managed to have him autograph a business card for me. All in all, not a bad day considering I was going to spend it typing up affidavits for arrest warrants.....

Congratulations, Crapgame! What a trifecta for you! And I was excited to be stopped in traffic on Wednesday in Toledo, OH while the Presidential motorcade went from the airport to the Owens Community College, where Pres. Bush spoke. From what we saw from the highway, we really respect the local law enforcers who help guard our President.

"Part of this week I was assigned to augment Secret Service with dignitary protection as the Safari Club International was in town." So....is the Safari Club International considered to be some sort of terror group? That's like saying there are 250 U.S. soldiers on leave in this town and so we need extra security. I don't get it, this is the BUSH White House? Assigning extra security to cover the Safari Club is something a RAT President would do.

Col. Lemberes might have been the biggest catch of the bunch. I'd almost forgotten the name. He must be in his late 70s by now - how did he look?
To: Crapgame
Good for you! What a day! Makes you glad for those extra assignments. Also, it serves as a reminder for the rest of us that those Vietnam vets need thanking, too.

It's an international organization dedicated to the sport of hunting, especially the organized type of "safaris" overseas like Africa or India or South America. There are chapters all over the US that hold dinners and fund raisers and meetings similar to the NRA's. If I wasn't so html challenged, I'd post a link. Somebody?

Okay thanks. I did a search and it appeared to be pro-hunting. In reviewing the site, I didn't understand the comment.

"it appeared to be pro-hunting. In reviewing the site, I didn't understand the comment."Neither did I until I realized that the contingent was composed of Democrats, who are of course terrified of anything that smacks of an ability to resist their proposed tyranny to come. Maybe they've read Matt Bracken's (freeper Travis McGee) book: Enemies Foreign and Domestic! That'd be enough to scare the crap outta any anti-gun politician which is, of course a very good thing.
