Thanks for the photo of Kerry with Kennedy. It shows how well connected Kerry was at the time.

I remember that those who were connected never seemed to serve a full tour in VN. They came, they got a few medals, and they went home. Kerry's public actions after he came home cast doubt on his "alleged" actions in country, but there can be no doubt about his actions with the communist protesters.

"Would Kerry had been against the war if a Rat was still in the White House instead of Nixon?"

Probably. If I remember right, the commies and antir war protestors trashed the Democratic National Convention in Chigago back then alot more than they did the Republican one.

The Democratic Party of that day had not been so completely taken over by the Left as they have now, although Kerry and the rest of these folks mostly found their future homes with the Democrats.

I have always found Kerry's three purple hearts somewhat suspect. He was never hospitialized for any of them, two slight wounds in the arm and one in the thigh. As a Vietnam veteran, I know the awarding of medals was not always based strictly on the merits or the facts.

Bingo, if you dig you can come up with Kennedy's court martial records. Also he drank all the water they had left himself when they got on the island.

>>Kerry is not JFK II, he is Clinton II.

I think our saving grace here is that it is 2004, and not 1992. The lamestream media today isn't the only effective means of information dissemination, as it was then. Clinton's ugly background warts were swept under the rug by an on-their-knees media. Kerry's warts will be fully revealed to anyone half-way paying attention, and there are more and more doing so every day.

To my way of thinking - if you want to discount and question the medals won & awarded to Kerry - you have to question all the medals awarded to everyone in Viet Nam & other conflicts. You can't pick & choose which medal recipients earned their medals based on their politics or actions after they left the service. To do so shows extreme disrespect for all who served, not just your current political target.

This type of nitpicking can only belittle those that want to question someone else's bavery and service.

I agree. George McGovern is a whacko, but a brave patriotic whacko. I don't see the point in trying to dismiss Kerry's military record. It's his political ideas that are suspect. I don't think there is any dispute that Kerry had bullets whizzing at his head on a regular basis. It is more than many baby boomers did. It's annoying that he is using his war service as a political tool, but we should be better than trying to insult his service. He did put himself in harm's way. Once he was discharged though, I believe all of his actions are fair game.

Do you have a copy of that article? Would you be willing to scan it and email it?

I went to usni.org, and it appears you can only buy single articles back to Feb 1997, based on some text in their Advanced Search. I found the May 1996 table of contents, and tried searching several ways on good article title and author text, but nothing came up.

From here:
http://www.usni.org/Proceedings/PRO1996toc.htm#MAY1996
I got this:
Historical Perspective
The Day It Became the Longest War
by Lieutenant General Charles G. Cooper, USMC (Ret.)
The Chiefs' military advice just wouldn't do.

But here (hope that URL will work):
http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/proceedings/index.html?ts=1074867432&classchk=pass
I find this:
Naval Institute Proceedings (Feb 1997 - one issue ago)

If the report about him chasing the VC by himself into the bush is correct, he is a lucky man.

Having one man run away from the enemy is an old way to ambush whoever follows him. If this report is true, he isn't the smartest guy.

Where can you find these? I have heard a thing or two on this, but I have not read anything concrete.

Kennedy took PT-109 into the path of a Japanese convoy, shut off the engines, and waited. He kept waiting until a Japanese destroyer rammed his boat, putting the men in the water. Not only did the Japanese see him first and act, but the Japanese were seen so late that no action could be taken. It makes you wonder if all the crew were drunk.

To lose your command under such conditions is normally a matter for a court martial, not a medal. Malfeaseance and nonfeaseance in the face of the enemy.

And I am a veteran of Viet Nam. Giving Kennedy a medal for what should have brought brig time and a bad conduct discharge is obviously a product of his powerful family.

Do not accuse me of "every Democrat's a coward" stuff.

Give him his due in Vietnam.

I agree completely. I had lottery number 283 in 1971. I lucked out.

Did anyone actually see him throw those medals over the fence? Or was that a fabrication to ingratiate himself with certain folks and add to his "credentials." I'm hestitant, too, to criticize. I was drafted during Vietnam and somehow got sent to Germany. ( I'm sure Michael Moore would consider me a deserter), so I was never there (though I lost HS friends that didn't come back).

I'm disturbed by Kerry's post-VN pattern of fabrication of "facts." Considering that he is using these medals to propel himself into the White House, it is entirely appropriate to ask him to release the citations as to exactly why he was awarded those medals. Did Kerry become a self-promoting falsifier the week after he was discharged?

I think it's fair to ask this. If he's legit, he could only gain by releasing this. He could say something like:
"...on rare occasion, there have been folks who have exagerated their record for personal gain, and some have asked if that was true of me. Normally, I wouldn't respond to such questions, but seeing as I am running for the presidency, and greater scrutiny and transparency is expected of candidates, I thought I would accede to those requests and so I am releasing the official explanations as to why these were awarded. ...But that was yesterday, we need to look ahead to the future of our country."

--he would go up 5% in the polls, maybe more. I'm stumped as to why he hasn't done this, (-maybe he's using the Bush rope-a-dope technique, waiting for critcs to hyper-extend, and then....)
