New York, NY (Sports Network) - St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger was selected as an injury replacement for Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb in the 2004 Pro Bowl on February 8, the league announced Thursday.

McNabb suffered separated rib cartilage in the Eagles' 14-3 loss to Carolina in the NFC Championship on Sunday.

Bulger, in his third NFL season, passed for 3,845 yards with 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions for an 81.4 passer rating after taking over the starting job in Week 2. The Bulger-led Rams also fell to the Panthers with a 29-23 loss in the divisional round.

Bulger is the sixth Ram named to the team, joining receiver Torry Holt, defensive end Leonard Little, left tackle Orlando Pace, safety Aeneas Williams, and kicker Jeff Wilkins.

I doubt that more than 4 or 5 of the 13 wins (including the playoff win) had anything to do with the skillful play of McNabb. Even the Green Bay win is suspect. If McNabb hadn't played like he was in a daze the first three quarters he wouldn't have had to bring them back in the last minute.

One thing you can be sure of, though. When it comes to McNabb the Philly media will never run out of excuses.

The Eagles aren't so good. They were at their best with this current group in 2000, and they've declined since then. I think a lot of the problems originate from management and coaching.

Donovan McNabb would make a great Tight End, but as a quarterback he's all sizzle, no steak.

Randall Cunningham was better.

The Packers lost that game, Philly didn't win it.

As a GIANT fan, I am heartend by this quote by Tom Coughlin, new NY Giants head coach:

The year off that I have experienced allowed me to make many observations, one of which is more games are lost in this league than are won. We must eliminate turnovers. You are not going to beat anybody with a minus-16 (turnover ratio.)

As for Andy Reid, if you can't win one title in three tries in a row (2 of them at home for @$&%*'s sake), the Cosmo says:

"You Stink!"

It wasn't a stellar year for NFC QB's. Look at who's going to the Super Bowl -- Jake Delhomme! Whodathunk if you had said at the beginning of the season, "A quarterback named Jake will lead his new team to the Super Bowl," you would be talking about Delhomme and not Plummer?

Why was McNabb even there?

McNabb was 3rd best in the NFC. Brooks (NO), and Johnson (TB), both ranked higher in the NFC than Bulger. Must be a popularity factor in there.

Agreed. Seemed like at times, he threw as many picks as TD's. The difference was that the Rams put up a bunch of points, so the INT's didn't "hurt".

Rush was justified in saying he was overrated at the beginning of the season (although his comments on the media were inappropriate for the moment), but McNabb proved the remainder of the season that he didn't just plain suck. Aaron Brooks and Brad Johnson? They did well, but neither of their teams sniffed the playoffs.

Yep. The loss was blamed on the receivers, offensive line and the refs. McNabb should be converted to halfback/wide receiver for his running ability.

It was between Bulger and myself. Unfortunately, I have a friend coming in from out of town that weekend.

"(Ya think Rush will get blamed for this one ??)," "McNabb suffered separated rib cartilage in the Eagles' 14-3 loss to Carolina "

Yes - Rush will be blamed. I have it on good authority that Rush put on a Carolina uniform and personally made the hit that separated McNabb's rib cartilage.

You got that right. You could say the same for the entire season. If the NFL doesn't get rid of the salary cap, we may never see a great team again. In life as in sports - Parity sucks!

The Philly fans and press are lobbying hard for Terrell Owens--like he's going to some kind of savior. I don't like Terrell Owens, and as an Eagles fan, I don't want Terrell Owens on the team. He's been nothing but trouble his whole career.

McNabb had the third best QB rating in the NFC. Of course, at the point at which Rush made his comment he was about 31st in the NFL.
