DANIA BEACH, Fla. -- South Florida police say a teenager tried to rob a convenience store, but had the wrong bullets for his weapon. When customers saw the 16-year-old struggling to load the weapon, they took action and it was all caught on tape.
Surveillance cameras inside the 7-Eleven store in Dania Beach show the 16-year-old walk in with his shirt over his head, holding a .22-caliber rifle. He pointed the rifle and the clerk, but then lowered it and began going through his pockets.
"[He] remembers he forgot to load it. So he takes time out to reach in his pocket, pulls out a .40-caliber bullet and he tries to cram it into this. 22-caliber rifle. Of course, the bullet won't go," explains Jim Leljedal, Broward County Sheriff's Office.
A customer saw he was having trouble and sprung into action, tackling the teenager. Other customers then joined in. They pinned the teenager down and called police.
"They could see that there was an opportunity to act and the took action and, fortunately in this case, they managed to catch this young armed robber," says Leljedal.
The high school sophomore will be charged with armed robbery. Investigators say they'd like to add another charge; he should be charged with armed robbery and stupidity, but he's just charged with armed robbery at this point.
The state attorney's office will decide whether to charge the teenager as an adult.

I guess they don't teach firearms basics in public school any more.

I guess he brought a heavy, metallic paperweight to a gunfight.
BTW, they didn't teach me firearm basics when I went to the public schools in New Jersey fifty years ago. I had to learn that in the Army.

The kids lucky there wasn't an armed citizen in the store, I'd say if the kid was shot the shooting would be justified.
If he was shot before it became evident that his gun was unloaded that is.

Yes, I was thinking the same. Even if it was obvious, and he was standing there trying to load it. I expect it didn't become obvious how clueless this kid was until after he had been tackled and subdued.

I think I can beat that one. Last week, two knuckledragging examples of human debris with containers of alchohol and weed in their car decided a good place to party was behind this really big building. It was real secure since they had to drive through two security gates. I guess all the white cars parked back there didn't tip these idiots off at all. Great place to party, the Clinton Township, Michigan Police Department parking lot.

Sad thing is that by him trying to load the gun he might have used it if he had the right ammo. Intent sure seems to be there.
To: FreedomPoster
Given his utter ineptitude with the weapon, it's a safe bet he didn't own the gun. Probably stole it in an earlier burglary.

Ha! Ha! I'm sure they simply 'held' the young man down until the police got there.
"Gee officer, he must have slipped a couple of hundred times on the way here!"
What a boob. Do ya think he'll LEARN from this? I bet he'll only learn that NEXT time, load the gun before you approach your target.
