Flyers Promote White Student For African-American Award

OMAHA, Neb. -- Four Westside High School students are suspended for promoting a white student for an African-American award.

More than 150 flyers were distributed throughout the school Monday. They featured junior Trevor Richards, A South African native who moved to the United States in 1997.

Westside officials say the flyers were were quickly removed because they were inappropriate and insensitive to black students.

Trevor said he is as African as anyone else.

"I had no intent of hurting anyone or offending anyone. I wasn't trying to make a statement. I was just running for the award, but i guess the administration felt differently," Richards said.

Richards was suspended for two days.

Two other students were disciplined for putting up the posters and another student was punished for starting a petition to promote Richards.

I am willing to believe that there might be more to this story. But this is just too rich, a true African-American is ineligible for an African-American award. Too bad he is white and from that evil South Africa.

Isn't NFL kicker Gary Anderson from South Africa? Gee, another African-American in the NFL.

I blame the school for the lack of clarity. They should have published rules to the award saying that they mean a BLACK AMERICAN student award.
What a conundrum. So do the no longer call it an African American student award or now call it what it is. A BLACK AMERICAN student award in which case they are even more fragrantly being discriminatory.
So can they now have a WHITE AMERICAN student award? What about a Yellow AMERICAN award only for Asian students?

I wonder if this is the start of the pendulum swinging the other way regarding titles. After these hypocracies such as the school controversy are called out, we might slowly have to shift to calling persons with black skin "negroes" as was the case prior to the 1960s.
