Student Charged With Helping Al-Qaida

The Minneapolis student arrested as a material witness in a terrorism investigation last month has been charged by a Minneapolis federal grand jury with conspiracy to provide material support to Al-Qaida.

A one-page indictment unsealed Wednesday gives no details about what the government suspects Mohammed Warsame of doing except to say that Warsame, who also went by the names Abu Maryam and Abu Zaynab, conspired starting no later than March 2000 through December 8, 2003.

An affidavit released in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York says Warsame told FBI agents on Dec. 8 that he pledged to use the alias Abu Maryam in connection with attending a training camp at which Osama Bin Laden was present in Afghanistan during 2000 and 2001.

Warsame appeared in the Southern District of New York today, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Minneapolis. He was ordered held without bond pending his return to Minneapolis.

U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Tom Heffelfinger declined to provide details about what kind of support Warsame is accused of providing. Heffelfinger said Warsame will return to Minneapolis in a week to 10 days, when the prosecution process will begin.

“This case will not get tried in the press,” Heffelfinger said. “In due course, the evidence will be revealed.”

Omar Jamal, who spoke after a brief meeting with relatives of Warsame, said that they were devastated beyond words, even though they had suspected this step could come.

“The family still believes he is innocent,” Jamal said. He also said again that the arrest of one man shouldn’t convict the entire community.

“I believe that Minnesotans are intelligent enough to distinguish the difference between one man and entire community,” he said.

They are wrong about the "community" the community in question should be rounded up( the elderly, children, et al} and uncerimoniously deported back to whatever dirt mound they came from.

Abu Maryam? Father of Maryam? How often do these Islamists take names after their daughters?

Even if the Koran says what you say--which is unsubstaniated at this point--it is still evil to deport them for their religion. In this land and in the Kingdon of Heaven, we are judged by what WE do--not what someone else with something in commmon does.

Claptrap has a valid point.

We must now contend with an enemy within our own borders. They are playing for keeps.

Why do we allow them into our country? Do they have a divine right to attend flight school in Florida? Oh wait, I guess they did...

Maryam. Hmm, like Mariam.

Remember UK politician "Gorgeous George" Galloway's Iraq charity "Mariam Appeal?"
