HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A jealous husband killed his wife by smashing her head on the garage floor of their mansion, then staged a car wreck to try to make her death look like an accident, authorities say.

Jonathan Nyce, 54, a former pharmaceutical researcher, remained jailed Wednesday on $1 million bond. He has pleaded innocent to first-degree murder.

Speaking in court against the advice of his attorney and the judge, Nyce insisted his wife's death was "a pure accident."

"I have no history of physical violence ever against any person," he said. "I never, ever had ill will toward my wife."

The body of 34-year-old Michelle Nyce was found in her Toyota Land Cruiser after the sport utility vehicle went over a snowy embankment and into a creek.

Prosecutors said Nyce confronted his wife in their garage after she returned from meeting her lover at a hotel.

A shame - just dump her and move on. Going to jail over a woman isn't my idea of getting the last laugh...

well of course, there is no excuse for this crime. but "just dump her" can be tough, it just cost harrison ford 90 million dollars + half his indiana jones DVD royalties.

What is amazing is that he thought he'd get away with it by staging the car wreck.

Should've simply kicked her butt out if it was true..... and who knows what he was doing.

There's usually two sides to every story. At least when both sides are alive to tell about it anyway.....

And their 3 young children are now basically orphans. How sad is that.

And if she's a trophy wife, why did she work at Macy's?

Millionaire 54, wife 34 , and she has an affair? Say it aint so? (Wife of 13 years ... she married him when she was 21 .. and he was 41 ... lol) If he didnt know she was a gold digger he should have. No excuse for murder, probably more evidence of an imbalanced view of reality.

I know it can be tough, and betray is something I personally don't handle well. That's not to say I'd get violent.

Actually I am an entrepeneur and I do very well - any 'golddigger' can find a wealthier guy than me, so one that gets together for me for money has poor judgment!

In fact, I have freaked out several women I have spoken to, discussing money, marriage, and divorce, saying it's worth 1/2 my money to get rid of someone holding me down. After all, I know how to make money, and I can always make more.

And any woman who would marry me for 1/2 of what I am worth has deeper problems, I think, that money won't solve. She is probably a prisoner in her own world - a sad, sad place I would never want to share.

Money is solid energy, nothing more. You can always make more money.

Women I know for some reason do not take well to my posture. Thoughts?

I'm all for upgrading, espectailly when the one you are trading in isn't worth the trouble (like this chick). It's just that, given the course of action he took, he will be upgrading to a brawny cellmate! Eeeek!!!

It's a sad story, given that they had three kids.

But, according to the story, he's 54, she's 34, and they've been married for 13 years.

Thus, he was 41, and she 21 when they married.

IOW, this murder has roots that go way back. She was a young "trophy wife," and his amorous capabilities were undoubtedly waning, and he was undoubtedly too old for her friends. Which explains why she had an affair going on.

Which is one good reason why middle-aged men shouldn't go after very young wives.

Beat me to it. Can't say that she was a gold-digger. More likely the age difference caught up with Mr. Nyce.

If you tell them what you've told us, you've told them that they're a replaceable commodity who you'll dispose of at a time of your choosing.

In not so many words, you're saying: "Hey, baby: how much?"

Maybe the women acted freaked out because the words love and affection didn't enter into your opinion. Sounds like a business transaction, ala' Donald Trump. Not that you don't have a right to your opinion, of course.

And any woman who would marry me for 1/2 of what I am worth has deeper problems, I think, that money won't solve. She is probably a prisoner in her own world - a sad, sad place I would never want to share.

Do you want a wife or a prostitute?

Read some background on all this. She married him when she was 20 and he was 40. He was always extremely controlling and temperamental. She had also confided in a friend that she was planning to divorce him.At the time of her death, they were in financial difficulty and had put the house up for sale. In fact, he requested and got court-appointed counsel. He's lucky he did this in New Jersey, where he'll probably only serve 6 or 7 years for 2nd degree murder.

No, not really. All I'm saying is, if a woman betrays me, for example, it's worth 1/2 of my money to get rid of her so I can move on. I can always make more money. My time and affection is more important than the money.
