January 21, 2004 -- UPPSALA, Sweden - Gay couples should be allowed to get married in church, Sweden's top bishop said yesterday, in a controversial proposal even for a nation on the forefront of homosexual rights. "We have seen that marriage puts more and more emphasis on the love aspect rather than reproduction and that opens an understanding for a love that is not between man and woman," Archbishop K.G. Hammar said.

Top bishop? He is the head honcho - the Arch bishop! One should remember that he is known to make controversial statements.

Martin Luther is rolling over in his grave. I can just hear him commenting on this.

Top bishop? Implying, I guess, that there's also a bottom bishop. Perhaps this statement tells us that they're one and the same....

If this bishop feels so strongly about the matter, he should walk the walk. Force him into a homosexual marrige and see how he likes it. That goes for all the others pushing that agenda. If you're for it, do it yourself. Quit forcing your agenda on the rest of us.

"I now pronounce you man and man. Now go home and take turns having anal sex with one another."
Let's conveniently ignore that part of The Bible that proclaims that men lying with men is an abonimation. What part of the word "abonimation" doesn't the Bishop understand?
To: TruthShallSetYouFree
The Swedish "church" is not a real church. Their leadership has re-made God into their own image. This so-called bishop is an idolator. Therefore, he doesn't just miss the meaning of "abomination" - he is one.

I hadn't realized that the Lutherans had fallen so far.

Could be wrong, but isn't the Swedish Luthern Church just part of the government? He is probably a civil servant.

The "Lutheran Swedish Church" is an agency of the Swedish government, and behaves accordingly.

I believe that is the case in most of the socialist countries up there - Finland, Sweden, Holland, etc. They are also some of the most unchurched and highly atheistic in the world. And that makes sense. If the churches (state-run or not) have no scriptural vision, the people perish.

Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

No, Church and State are separated and church is loosing members fast - could be an attempt to appear "progressive"? But as I mentioned in my commentary: He is known for being controversial.
After a couple of years of heavy gay-lobbying I think the tide is turning a bit. A couple of years back "everyone" was coming out of the closet - almost a fashion, which created a sort of PC-atmospere where no one dared to utter their objections (not even our conservatives...).

I hadn't realized that the Lutherans had fallen so far. Hey, check out the Evangelical (smirk, smirk) Lutheran Church in America.

I believe that divisive issues such as the homosexual question are paradoxically providing a great impetus to true ecumenism. I see a gradual coalescing of those who sincerely desire and seek the truth in one Church in union with the successor of St. Peter, while those who hanker after a religion molded in light of current secular political correctness and which panders to their own whims and fancies, gradually drifting off into ever more fragmented and impotent cliques and sub-groups.
In the Anglican Church, for instance, this has been happening for some time. Large numbers of Anglicans have entered the Catholic Church over just this question and also other issues such as women priests.
The only thing still lacking is something which will cement the truth-lovers in one body and will disintegrate and dissolve the false churches. Such a thing will likely be a persecution. Down the ages, the vitality and future health of the Christian church has always been purchased with blood.

It must be homosexual news day. This is not the only article on the topic. They are responding to the state of the union speech line endorsing adopting the Federal Marriage Amendment. Homosexuals are in fear of their years of court battles being erased.
Support the Federal Marrage Amendment.

Yes, I know - that´s the reason I posted it... One sometimes hear (from the left) references to Sweden, Denmark, Holland etc. concerning for example family law, gay issues and these "references" have to be met and debated on a factual basis, otherwise their "contributions" tend to become "herschende meinung" (common factual incorrect "knowledge").
