Republican party officials say a private fund-raiser attended by former President Bush and retired General Schwarzkopf raised $500,000.

Indiana gubernatorial candidate Mitch Daniels, former Vice President Quayle and actress Bo Derek also were among the guests at Thursday's $5000-a-ticket event at the home of businessman Steve Chancellor.

Chancellor hosted a similar GOP event in July 2000 that raised more than $1.4 million. But new campaign finance laws have put caps on contributions.

State Republican Chairman Jim Kittle says that makes it more difficult to raise large amounts of money at a single time.

The most a person can now donate to the Republican National Committee is $25,000.
