Jewish group endorses same-sex marriage (liberal religious voices to counter the strong opposition)

BOSTON, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The major public policy voice of the Jewish community in greater Boston has voted overwhelmingly to back same-sex marriage.

The endorsement by the Jewish Community Relations Council, an umbrella organization representing 42 Jewish groups, is part of a growing effort by liberal religious voices to counter the strong opposition to same-sex marriage voiced by the state's Catholic bishops, the Boston Globe said Friday.

The bishops of the state's four Catholic dioceses planned to announce a major campaign to defeat same-sex marriage Friday.

Several Jewish organizations had already endorsed same-sex marriage, including the largest Jewish denomination in the country, the Union for Reform Judaism. But, same-sex marriage is opposed by leaders of Orthodox Judaism, a small minority of greater Boston's 250,000-member Jewish community.

Same-sex marriage has become a hotly contested issue in Massachusetts because of a ruling by the state Supreme Judicial Court in November declaring that barring two people of the same sex from marrying violates the state constitution.

It's probably the same waffle he does with abortion.

The Reform guys are really pushing the limits of how much one can add or subtract from traditional Judaism and still expect to be considered Jewish. Now that they're blessing fruitcakes, can cheeseburgers be far behind?

I was unaware that God's law was subject to a vote. I guess you learn something new every day.

So, is butt-sex now considered Kosher?

Apostate religion at its best....

Matthew 18 (NIV):

6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

7"Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!

"Deformed" Judiasm is what real Jews call it. "Reform Jews" are not Jews, any more than Marxist "Liberation Theology" priests are Christians. They are Socialists and Democrats. "Secular Humanism" is their religion. True Jews ought to file suit to have "Reform" organizations stripped of their 501 non-profit status, since they do not follow the tenets of Judiasm.

Is this the opinion of the majority of the rebs, or of the actual members of the congregations? Is it like the Episcopalians where the members' actual opinions are ignored by the so-called leadership of the prol-homo heirarchy?

Jews used to believe in Eternal Principles. Now they go along with whatever secular society deems trendy. Oy vey!

Gay Marriage Controversy
Tim Skubick

The American Family Association of Michigan wants lawmakers to pass a ballot proposal that, if approved by voters, would ban homosexual marriages here.

The group's president Gary Glenn says he is confident the plan will sail through the Michigan House but concedes "it is a little closer" in the senate.

Glenn tells Michigan Public TV's "Off the Record" program that a majority of citizens oppose gay marriages for fear they would undermined the institution and might cause younger persons to "experiment" with the alternative life style.

The so called one man-one woman marriage protection amendment is sponsored by local Senator Alan Cropsey.

Up until recently it appeared the senate would not vote on the plan, but Glenn says that obstacle has been removed. There could be a vote on Valentine's Day."

"Rabbi Barbara Penzer of Temple Hillel B'nai Torah, a Reconstructionist Jewish congregation in Boston's West Roxbury section, said she had officiated at wedding ceremonies for gay couples for 15 years.

"I believe that gay marriage will do more for stable families, and will not harm one single heterosexual marriage," she said."

Gay Marriage Debate Gets Civil Rights Feel
JENNIFER PETER
Associated Press

BOSTON - A 21st century battle for gay rights is being fought with rhetoric from the civil rights movement of the 1960s - ideals that have echoed through Massachusetts' gay marriage campaign from its outset.

Denunciations of "separate but equal" laws have energized a crowd of protesters fighting for new rights.

U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, who helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, has weighed in with a brief to the state's highest court, as the legislative phase of the debate began and the courts prepared to revisit the landmark decision.

"Let freedom ring. Let freedom ring. My God Almighty, let freedom ring," the Rev. George Welles, an Episcopalian minister from Milton, proclaimed last week, paraphrasing Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous speech. He spoke at a rally celebrating the state Supreme Judicial Court's gay marriage decision."
