The Royal Navy wouldn't use either the short or long drop, the condemned were run up to a yardarm from the deck, strangling slowly.
Unfortunately for those of us with a traditionalist bent I think the military now would use lethal injection in all but a situation of wartime battlefield summary trial and execution.

Agreed. Firing squads should be reserved for real soldiers, not for the "brains" behind terrorist vermin.
