I was astonished to discover that most of the people who actually live in New York City are friendly and funny as h**l. I've lived in the Pacific Northwest, Chicago, Baltimore, New Jersey, and in other foreign places, as well, and found people to be pretty much the same everywhere.
Now, do I want them moving to North Carolina? You can bet a rat's *** I don't. This is my country, Yankees. You're just here on a temporary visa.
To: warchild9
I've actually met Yankees who'd be an asset to our Southern country. So long as they don't take a job there, right? Then they become carpetbaggers.

Naaa! You're funnin' me. Vivaldi spent most of his career teaching at a girls school in Austria or Germany or somewhere IIRC. And composing that 1 - 400 concertos and choral works.
I have sung his "Gloria" with orchestra. But he wrote no parts for banjos there. :^D

Your use of the word "there" in your #42 leads me to believe you might be a Yankee, Mr. Non. You trying to fool with me?

If I had a way to make a decent living there, I'd never leave Charleston. That city's one of the jewels of our nation.

I was astonished to discover that most of the people who actually live in New York City are friendly and funny as h**l. They have to be the ones born and raised there!!!!
I had a problem with the transplants who accepted the notion that al NYers were obnoxious loudmouths who wouldn't give a stranger the time of day and set out to prove it - and that was before I left 20+ years ago.

Oh, and the "assets" I was thinking about were those beautiful women I watched in New York City. That's a flock second only to Miami's in my estimation.

My wife's theory about people who leave their homeground is this: they couldn't make it at home, so they go off somewhere else to soil someone else's home. That's why we aren't receiving the quality people of Mexico, but the Indios, the peasants, who couldn't make a go of it in Mexico.
The Yankees we get here in NC are trash, for the most part, as the higher quality citizens stay up North. I have to preach this truth constantly to other Carolinians, so they don't get the wrong idea of our all our neighbors above the M-D line. (Or Mexico. Educated and proud Mexicans stay in Mexico, and help build their own country.)

Earlier last century some Yankees came down and created jobs. At first they were welcomed. Labor left the farms to work in the new factories. After a awhile the jobs were weren't what was expected. Workers were worse off than when they were sharecroppers. When the depression came along these northern pillars of industry deinvested themselves and left their employees out in the cold.

Every Yankee who goes south with the intention of staying is an idiot. IMHO, of course Damn NS, what's happened to your manners?

This century, the multinationals came to the Triangle area of North Carolina with their employees (creating a net 0 jobs--they never hired locally at first), but DID bring real estate money by the bushel. In the past few years, they've fired most of their employees, and replaced them with H1-B's and temps. IBM is in the process of eliminating all their IT jobs here NC, for example, leaving us with a lot of unemployed Yankees.
Just an FYI supporting your statement.

I spend too much time around lawyers, who constantly parse language. You said "there", referring to the South, and not "here." Unless you're currently living in the foreign North, my assumption was based on your choice of words.
I apologize if any offense was taken.
To: warchild9
That's a pretty harsh condemnation of those who choose to move south.
I didn't move south to Delaware (considered south of the M-D line, but technically east of it) because I couldn't make it in NYC. I chose it as a starting point for my chosen career because I preferred small town living. And for the most part enjoyed my 21 years living, working and being part of the community there.
But the "yankee" invasion changed the landscape and the political climate and so my husband and I started looking at alternatives. We wanted to stay on the DelMarVa penninsula because of his job and decided that Virginia was far superior to either southern Delaware or Maryland. He was spending a great deal of time travelling down this way anyway on a regular basis, so it just made sense all around. It makes the company happier because he is not spending as much time on the road between service calls and definitely makes home life happier because he is home at a reasonable hour every day.
I choose to believe we are not a detriment to the community, but rather additional assests. We didn't take jobs away from anyone local, as we both have the same jobs we did prior to moving from Delaware.

Please note there are people in the South who seriously dislike Yankees of any stripe, for any reason. I am not one of those. My mother was second-generation Illinois, after all.
I dislike Yankees being HERE, the same way I dislike Mexicans being HERE. It's nothing personal, and I'm not accusing you of doing anything deliberate.
The South is a distinctive nation, Southerners are a distinctive people, and we're under attack through the unwarlike method of colonization. Whatever your reasons for being here, you are a colonist, and your presence is detrimental to the South.
To: Gabz
Oh, and for perspective: most SOUTH Carolinians dislike NORTH Carolinians, because we're from the North. This can get riiculous, I agree.
