Certainty
Long time ago | Anderson, Howe, Wakeman

Having recently been subjected to many (2) Iterations of a commercial for Tim Robbins new movie, I delved back into Yes and Dean.

One of the things I have discovered most in life, the hardest thing, is that truth is not a Knowledge, it cannot be bought or sold, none of us deserve it, it is a momentary light that shines on us, and for a brief, unforgetable time, shows us the true face of God.

"A man conceived a moment’s answers to the dream, Staying the flowers daily, sensing all the themes. As a foundation left to create the spiral aim, A movement regained and regarded both the same, All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.

Changed only for a sight of sound, the space agreed. Between the picture of time behind the face of need, Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid, Emotion revealed as the ocean maid, All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you. Oh.

Turn round tailor, coins and Assaulting all the mornings of the crosses Interest shown, never know Presenting one another to the cord, their fruitless worth; All left dying, rediscovered cords are broken, Of the door that turned round, locked inside To close the cover, the mother earth. All the interest shown, they won’t To turn one another, to the sign hide, hold, they won’t At the time tell you, watching the world, To float your climb. watching all of the world, Watching us go by.

And you and I climb over the sea to the valley, And you and I reached out for reasons to call.

Ii. eclipse (anderson/bruford/squire)

Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid, Emotion revealed as the ocean maid, As a movement regained and regarded both the same, All complete in the side of seeds of life with you.

Iii. the preacher the teacher (anderson/bruford/howe/squire)

Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time; Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme. There’ll be no mutant enemy we shall certify; Political ends, as sad remains, will die. Reach out as forward tastes begin to enter you. Ooh, ooh.

I listened hard but could not see Life tempo change out and inside me. The preacher trained in all to lose his name; The teacher travels, asking to be shown the same. In the end, we’ll agree, we’ll accept, we’ll immortalise That the truth of the man maturing in his eyes, All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.

Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid, As a moment regained and regarded both the same, Emotion revealed as the ocean maid, A clearer future, morning, evening, nights with you.

Iv. apocalypse (anderson/bruford/howe/squire)

And you and I climb, crossing the shapes of the morning. And you and I reach over the sun for the river. And you and I climb, clearer, towards the movement. And you and I called over valleys of endless seas."

Having seen Yes many, many years ago, at a sold out concert at Geneseo State University, sitting on the floor (no chairs, only blankets) I must post this as an acknowledgement of art.

"Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid, As a moment regained and regarded both the same, Emotion revealed as the ocean maid, A clearer future, morning, evening, nights with you!"

Course it helps to be listening thru my Polk SDA SRS's.

Bump for my absolute favorite band! I first saw Yes in 1979 "in the round" at the Philadelphia Spectrum (they recently released a short DVD of that show), and I never cease to be amazed at their incredibly brilliant musicianship.

One of the things I have discovered most in life, the hardest thing, is that truth is not a Knowledge, it cannot be bought or sold, none of us deserve it, it is a momentary light that shines on us, and for a brief, unforgetable time, shows us the true face of God.

I often wondered just what Jon Anderson was smoking when he wrote those lyrics to "And You And I" and many of the other mid-70s releases -- I think you might be on to something.

Regards, and TY. I saw them in I think about '73 right after Fragile hit, siiting on the gym floor (no chairs allowed, blankets and babes to keep us warm) at SUNY Geneseo, a sold out show, tickets were an extremely expensive $2.25 each.

Squire plays the bass like he was a lead guitarist or something, Wakeman (who wasn't with the band till later) was incredible, and, YES, Andersons lyrics were totally inspiring.

I lament what gets sold as music today.

Bump for a YES fan.

"On the hill we viewed the silence of the valley,
Got to witness cycles only of the past,
And we reach all this with movement in between the said remarks,
Close to the edge, down by a river,
down at the end, round by the corner,
seasons will pass you by,
now that it's all over and done,
go to the sea, rise to the sun,
Now that you find, now that you're whole,
Seasons will pass you by,
I get up, I get down,
I get up, I get down,
I get up, I get down"
Squire, Buford, Anderson
YES, Close to the Edge, 1973
