Bush seeks to ease immigration laws

WASHINGTON — President Bush is proposing to let foreign workers who have U.S. jobs waiting for them enter America.

Virtually silent on the immigration issue for two years, Bush was working today on remarks he will make about immigration on Wednesday afternoon at the White House to about 150 people active in immigration issues.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan would not say whether the president would announce a detailed proposal, or general outlines of a proposal to match willing foreign workers, mostly from Mexico, with receptive U.S. employers. There are an estimated 10 million undocumented workers in the United States, as many as half of them from Mexico

‘‘It’s the issue of what he’s talked about before — about matching willing workers with willing employers where there are jobs that Americans are not interested in filling,’’ McClellan said.

‘‘That’s an economic need that exists. It’s important that we have a fair immigration policy and an immigration policy that addresses those economic needs,’’ McClellan added.

The announcement comes just before Bush’s scheduled meeting with Mexico’s President Vicente Fox next week at the Summit of the Americas in Monterrey, Mexico. Mexican officials have complained bitterly at times that while the Bush administration has sought their help with border security and combatting drug trafficking, they have not acted on their desire for favorable changes in U.S. immigration policy.

Mexican officials have argued that the administration used post-Sept. 11 security concerns as an excuse to better protect, rather than allow freer movement over the U.S.-Mexican border. Tense relations were further aggravated by Mexico’s decision not to support the U.S.-led war in Iraq, and when Bush refused to stop the execution of a Mexican national in Texas.

If their lifestyle was equal to ours, I could see where competition would come into play.

As it stands, no one is willing to call a spade a spade by discussing how much money is being sent to Mexico, how many American tax dollars are being misdirected into social programs, etc.

The title should be "Come one, come all, American jobs up for grabs". Bush is more worried about employing Mexicans than employing out of work Americans. Soon we'll all be working for minimum wage like illegals do.

Speak for yourself. Personally, I think we could use a few more Mexicans. Lots of golf courses and homes need building right now. Just because Americans think they are too good to build golf courses, mow lawns, and build houses is not really a good argument for keeping people out of the country when there is a lot of work sitting half done.

Lemme see: what was it happened two years ago?

Ah yes: THREE THOUSAND LIVES lost thanks in large part to deliberate failure to enforce immigration laws on the books.

Now Bush is going to "formalize" the contempt his Administration and others have had for enforcing the immigration laws of the United States enacted by the freely elected representatives of the citizens thereof.

If Bush puts forth this insult to American sovereignty, to American laws, to American citizenship, to American taxpayers, then he's as big and even bigger of a traitor in my mind than Clinton. And I'm truly, truly sorry I voted for him.

Bring 'em up, GW. You're gonna need those Mexican votes to replace mine, and a lot of others.

The illegals are also bringing Mexican 'red' methamphetamine with them...and are responsible for its spread among Americas kids in the midwest...
They are a natural distribution network hard to trace or catch for the cartels...deport them and presto they are back next year...new papers..no problemo

Because economists have demonstrated as fact that slave labor is much more economically inefficient than free labor, as you know. Also, I don't believe in slavery. It's not good for the country. I also don't believe in using the federal government to artificially prop up the wages of phony "patriots" who are too lazy to do jobs needing to be done that would otherwise go undone when people willing to love this country and work hard would die for the chance.
