In Jammu, four Jawans have been killed and several wounded when militants hurled a grenade and opened indiscriminate fire at the Jammu Railway station last evening.
Security forces reached the spot and gunned down the two militants in a long drawn out encounter. They then cordoned off the entire area and evacuated the passengers and their relatives. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The firing in the Jammu railway station started on Platform number one but luckily there was no train on the platform at that time. But hundreds of passengers were there in the station. Militants lobbed grenades and opened fire indiscriminately.
In the gun battle with the security forces, the militants and four army jawans were killed. The army lieutenant who led the operations was also killed. The attack comes on the eve of Prime Minister Vajpayee's visit to Islamabad. But minister of state for defence Chamanlal Gupta said the attack will not affect the improvement in Indo-Pak ties.
