A library should be a safe place for children.

Agreed. So move the computers into the adult section and prohibit minors from accessing them. Problem solved with no expensive software or licensing fees.

If you really think that kids are going to learn about this stuff because of the library computers, you need to sit down and talk with your kids about what is going on in their schools and among their playmates.

I raised four girls to strict standards. None were ever in any trouble, all are in their 20s now. It is not necessary to ask the government to raise our children and protect them from things we don't agree with. You open the door to this stuff and somebody shows up wanting to ban bambi because it causes hurtful feelings, and somebody else doesn't want NRA sites, and someone else mentions smoking, and then there is little Mermaid with 'hidden porno' and where does it stop?

600K for sexual harassment by a computer? How about Arizona oceanfront property? I suspect there is a lot more to the case than that.

Well, sort of. In a large city with full staff and different sections, this could help. In a smaller town with part-time or volunteer staff or, like in my local library, certain times of day when large numbers of kids roam unsupervised, this will be more difficult. Smaller libraries have fewer computers available in general and those are often centrally located. 'Dedicating' certain computers for certain users limits the overall availability in smaller libraries. And there is the problem of pervs. Molesters who shouldn't be there anyway, blending in with the adult population they have even easier access to their addictions than ever before.

Plus, of all the ways people so inclined can access porn, who, really who?, wants to go to the library for porn? (ewww) Aren't there theatres or magazines? Why go to a public place for what is usually something viewed in private or with like-minded individuals? I think one has to question the motives of at least some of the people who want to view porn thusly. Even movie rental places have private rooms and booths for this purpose, so as not to disturb the other patrons of the non-porn variety.

That's a good idea then all the children that don't have access to a computer at home can be disqualified from using one.

That should help them get ahead with their studies.
