S. Florida teen girls discovering `bisexual chic' trend
Sun Sentinel ^ | December 30 2003 | Jamie Malernee

A group of teenagers is gathered at a party. Music's playing; smuggled booze is flowing. Two girls grin sheepishly at each other as a crowd goads them on.

Finally, the teens relent, rewarding their audience with some mouth-on-mouth action.

It's not an unusual scene, according to South Florida high school students, who say the newest trend for teen girls isn't wearing the latest designer jeans or driving a cool car, but declaring themselves to be bisexual.

Well, here we go...

I can't come up with an effective commentary at the moment that doesn't involve a large quantity of vitriol aimed at the liberal elements of our society.

So I invite commentary from those of you who can forward your opinions in a constructive manner, if such is possible over so inflammatory a subject.

Good morning,

Could you "ping" everyone for me, please? Thanks for all your effort out there!

Why do the names "Britney" and "Madonna" come to mind?

The media has been driving this for years.

In the whole scheme of things, I think they are as much a single "symptom" as they are an "encouragement" of such behavior.

On their own, I'd suggest they were a minimal impact. There's a much larger source of the pressure being placed upon teen culture to engage in such behavior and produce what is being described as a "trend".

*sigh*

Maybe I'm out of step with the prevailing opinions here, but it doesn't seem like a big deal. Of all the experimentation that teen girls could do, this seems like one of the more harmless options.

Well, what can one expect when some churches are celebrating homosexual behavior. I have heard before that bisexuality among young adults was on the increase. -

Yes, I would agree. The act by Britney and Madonna was more an act glamorizing it and making the behavior appear mainstream and cool.

Yet another case of our multi-media world being able to make a distinct monority opinion/value appear to be a majority.

From the article:

"It's really just straight children acting out that natural pubescent rebellion, of stepping out of the boundaries the previous generation set up," says Clarence Brooks, a teacher at Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach.

For better or worse, I think Mr. Brooks is right.

"The media has been driving this for years."

Certainly network television has. We are fast becoming a society of hedonists who will go to any extreme for their kicks. Their goal is to make nothing shocking anymore, and they are succeeding.

Ugh, it's going on in middle school here and the school is condoning it. The school is so over the top PC that it's ok for girls to have PDA in the halls but you get a black mark on the infamous permanent record if PDA is going on between a boy and girl.

I was looking for a "Barf" alert here, but didn't see one. I have only one reaction to this: GAG.

Having two women at the same time is a common teenage male fantasy.

I wonder why.

Media influence perhaps?

btw, notice who has his arms around the bride in this picture.... and who the bride is turned toward. Alot can be said for other influences (leadership) as well.

When I saw the term "PDA" I pictured a lap-top computer. But, reading on, I realize that I am mistaken.

Now I feel like I walked in during the middle of the movie and everyone but me knows what "PDA" means in this context.

Maybe I'm having another 'senior moment',
