I think if we ever went to Elmo, it would not be initiated with a press briefing scheduled two hours hence...it would probably be announced in the past tense.

That's the word around town. I'm comfortable posting that info since Steve is sure he saw an announcement of that in early explanations of the color code.

"security assesment" is the catch-phrase they're fond of.

You know, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

First people complained that they weren't forewarned that there had been a lot of chatter and unspecific warnings prior to 9/11.

So they started to keep us abreast when the level of unspecific threat changed.

That leads to people complaining that since they can't be specific, they should just keep it to themselves.

I'd be willing to bet that at least 80% of the people complaining about the first are the same ones complaining about the second.

Back to Big Bird, perhaps?

That's my guess. However,I like Tweety Bird better. :)

If we were to go to Elmo, I would think that announcement would come from Bush, rather than Ridge.

Condition Elmo possibly

I work for Homeland Security... during yellow we hang the yellow teletubby outside our cubicle, and during orange we hang out an orange shower puff. If we go to red, we have the red teletubby standing by... but Elmo is a good idea. Wonder where I can find a small Elmo...?

I've got the bad feeling that Eddie Munster is going to cancel New Year's Eve parties and celebrations. He's going to tell the sheeple to hunker down in their basements.

Thanks for the ping Howl. I'm very nervous because my little man is in LA with his Auntie and Uncle, not flying back to Chicago till Friday. I think this will be the last time I let any of the chickadees fly out of town for a while. I've been a nervous wreck since the Terror level was raised.

It's obvious that these so-called warnings with no real information behind them don't do a lot for national security. Even among freepers they're seen as pointless.

I don't think they are meant to provide any kind of warning (at least to any sane person - telling somebody "there maybe an attack someday against somebody" will usually get you weird looks).

I think it's the government trying to tell people "you need us" and "remember this the next time we ask for expanded powers and money".

If the PLO hits a kindergarden, I would hope that the IDF would unleash everything they have.

Thanks for the ping. Curious whether he will reiterate his previous warning or share something new. With New Years Eve around the corner, I'm have a difficult time convincing my 18 year old not to go to Times Square to watch the ball drop, regardless of what Bloomberg says.

Condition Elmo is the standard condition around here.

How's the back? Down to 201 lbs as of yesterday. Started at 228 in Feb. and lost almost 2 months of excercise to surgery in May.

My xmas present to myself, being under 200, didn't happen because I got the darn flu last week.

I don't open the ready locker until Condition Cookie Monster by the way.
