DEAN NOW LEADING JUST ABOUT EVERYWHERE
Politics1 ^ | 12/29/03

Independent polls continue to pile up showing that Howard Dean is now leading the field for the Democratic Presidential nomination in just about every key contest state -- even in states with a more conservative electorate. We're not even going to bother with any NH polls today, as Dean holds a landslide lead of around 30-points there.

Here are some of the latest poll results from the past week ... OKLAHOMA: Dean-24%, Wesley Clark-21%, Joe Lieberman-9%, and all others each at 4% or less. Lieberman has made OK and AZ key "make-or-break" states for him, so a loss here on February 3rd will be fatal for him. John Edwards is also trying to make a dent here here, so far without results ... ARIZONA: Dean-26%, Clark-15%, Lieberman-9%, Dick Gephardt-7%, John Kerry-6%, and all others at 1% or less. Yet another sign that Lieberman's strategy is failing ... SOUTH CAROLINA: Dean-16%, Clark and Al Sharpton tied at 12% apiece, Edwards-11%, Lieberman-7%, and all others at 3% or less. Lots of second place finishes are nice, but can anybody tell us what is the first state that Clark is actually going to win?... WISCONSIN: Dean-33%, Lieberman-12%, Clark-11%, Gephardt-9%, and Kerry-6%. The primary here is February 17 -- three weeks after NH -- so several of these guys will already be gone by that date ... GEORGIA: Dean-18%, Gephardt-8%, Clark-7%, Sharpton and Lieberman tied with 6% each, and the rest trailing behind. Clark dropped 6 points -- and from first to third -- since the last Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll in October. Gephardt dropped 4, while Dean moved up by 11 points.

President Bush, meanwhile, continues to lead Dean by a comfortable margin in all national polls of the likely general election match-up.

In related news, John Kerry loaned his campaign more than $6 million this week, secured by a mortgage on property he owns, in an effort to revive his failing campaign.

I keep having to pinch myself that this is really happening - if Dean continues, he shall surely capture the Democrat nomination. What worries me is that he will keep shooting off his mouth or demand further that the rest of the Dems play nice or threaten to withhold his supporters' support, if he loses - the Dems en masse may yet awake to the fact that he is a disacter for the Party and that scares me. Let's just hope he keeps on keepin on.

The Dems will be working harder to defeat him than the GOP.

Actually, considering that Dean WAS in the 30's in most independent reports, and has now dropped into the 20's...it says alot about how successful his campaign's going.

I predict he'll win the nod, then get royally crushed in November.

Dick Gephardt was in OK over the weekend saying that Pres Bush was the worst President of the last five Presidents. That is going to get him nowhere here. He is like an asterisk out here.

Only Dem signs I have seen are for Dean -- no other signs are visible here in Norman.

I still cannot believe that Dean will be the nominee. Of course, if Dean lost the nomination, his followers would sit out the election.

I am glad he will be the nominee. That man puts his foot in his mouth more than any other candidate. He's an idiot and will be crushed by Bush!

I don't think he's any threat to Bush. Dean is riding high now in the primaries against the other idiot democrats, but its another thing when he has to run against Bush. That is where he will lose big time!

We are reliving the flip-side of Barry Goldwater and the GOP in 1964. I was 16 and a big Goldwater supporter. We didn't want to hear that he couldn't win. We didn't care about the polls. It took 16 years for his ideas to finally triumph with The Gipper. Goldwater was obliterated, as will Dean be in 2004.

"The Dems will be working harder to defeat him than the GOP. "

Ya got that right. The GOP should help Dean in the primary. A Dean win will be the end of the Clintons and that would be good news for the GOP.
