When I unwrapped it I said out loud "Great! I got a paperweight". Wow! What happened after that?

From my grandparents: "All to Human", by George Stephanopoulos
From my dad: "The Bubble of American Supremacy" by George Soros
All I can say is: "I'm Sorry for you."
I hate to see Americans that have converted to communism/socialisms like your parents/grandparents

It's not out yet, but a plug for my forthcoming book, next October, called "The Beacon of Liberty: A Patriot's History of the United States." This book is going to be a flagship title of a new "conservative" list from Penguin/Putnam called the "Sentinel" imprint (appropriate, no?).
I hope next year, it will be available for all to give as a Christmas gift. Meanwhile, this year, I recommend the "Dragon's Fury" series by Freeper Jeff Head.

If you want to save money, I have seen the Katherine Harris's book at Dollar Tree, so you could treat dozen of your favorate liberal relatives to that book for fairly cheap.

If somebody got me a Soro's book they would get back "Treason" on the next round.

I'm such a snarling beast about this sort of thing, my family is completely cowed. They give me bookstore gift certificates.

Longitudes & Attitudes by Thomas Friedman - first column about what a hero Gore was for stepping down when the "Conservative Supreme Court" said it was more important for Fla to meet it's self-imposed deadline than to come up with a system to count every possible vote. Then he writes about the importance of the rule of law. Follow on columns a little less clueless.

Don't even crack open the Soros book. Return it to your nearest Barnes & Nobles ASAP. Soros doesn't deserve the sale of the book for you, even to use it as a paperweight or fire starting material.

I received an autographed Mark Steyn book from my brother (XJarhead).

A couple of years ago, I received "The Hunting of the President". I actually read it, and agreed with the general thesis of the book: There was a right wing conspiracy. OTOH, I was even more convinced of the crimes of X-42. The book made no credible case that clinton was innocent, just that the Republicans have a pretty good network!
Don't be afraid to read the left wing $hit. It will just solidify your beliefs.

Pre-1900 American history seems to have been a good way to give a quality gift that they have seemed to appreciate. It always depends on the circumstances. One of the worst gifts I ever got was a scholarly book about the Civil War from an aunt of mine. Not because I found the subject matter insulting, but because I was a teenager at the time who did not then have, and had never indicated to anyone that I did have, even the slightest interest in the topic. When they passed the hat around to determine who was buying Christmas presents for whom, she got my name and just grabbed the first thing she saw without putting the slightest thought into it. It certainly wasn't a book that would appeal to any kid.
On top of that, when I opened it up to check the copyright page, it turned out to be a Book-of-the-Month Club edition, which means there's a great chance she got at as part of those "five books for one dollar" deals.
I did get around to reading it about ten years later, after I had developed an actual interest in the Civil War and came across the book in the basement of my parents' house. It was without question one of the dullest books I have ever read on any subject.

I didn't get any books...I did give my mother a copy of Carlos's Clinton legacy cookbook. I did however recieve a G. W. Bush jack in the box! Funniest thing I've seen this season, it plays hail to the chief & he pops up podium & all.
