Congratulations! It was five years ago today the House of Representatives impeached President William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.
Those brave representatives survived an all-out war of political brinksmanship which included public threats of retaliation and private threats to bring down the government if Clinton was impeached.
James Carville threatened Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with "kneecapping;" Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde; George Stephanopoulos passed along the threat to employ the "Ellen Romesch defense"--a public blackmailing of Congress; Hillary Clinton said on the Today Show that those plotting against her husband "would have alot to answer for" when this was done; Paula Jones was called "trailer trash" and worse for simply seeking justice and an apology; Linda Tripp had her reputation destroyed by a conspiracy of Clinton administration officials and media operatives. Even Monica Lewinsky feared for her life and kept the infamous blue dress stained with presidue for insurance.
Thank God that people like Linda Tripp stood tall and refused to back down in their determination to see that a president of the United States could not commit felonies in office with impunity.
And thank God for people like Jim Robinson, Bob Barr, Gary Aldrich, Alan Keyes, Larry Klayman, Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Dale and all the rest who spoke at, organized and attended Free Republic's nationally televised rally supporting Clinton's impeachment on October 31, 1998.
You done good! Impeachment is forever. You can be proud that in America's hour of need, you answered the call to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

I was driving down to my brother's in Richmond for an early Christmas dinner, listening to C-SPAN, and almost had to pull over because I was crying so hard. Not because I thought he didn't deserve it, but because I was so heartbroken that the country had come to that.

Intimidation of women, lying under oath, rape. You're sorry he was impeached?

I vividly remember watching the vote total and the rather surreal elation I felt when the magic number was reached -- knowing that the Slime-ster would not be ultimately held to account but that at least the House of Representatives had done its duty (all 4 counts should have been passed instead of just 2). It was an historic day -- especially with Algore's weak defense of "one of America's greatest presidents" on the South Lawn alongside the Traitor-In-Chief. Thanks for reminding us all.

I understand how you felt. The first time I saw a U.S. president was when I protested Clinton as he went to church with his five pound Bible. I called out to him to resign the presidency. It was sad, indeed.

Impeachment is forever, and the final outcome is forever as well - not removed from office.

I wouldn't interview him, either. I don't think he's got all that much to say.

The really good news, is that Clinton is still the hero of the RATS. That is the best that they can do. How sad to have to revere a man like that.
