...and It would be so satisfying, so just, to have Saddam tortured mercilessly. Shove bamboo shoots up his fingernails while he is on 500ug of LSD. Infect him with diseases. Boil him in oil. Pound his digits with a hammer one at a time. Dislocate his shoulders. Cram feces down his throat and large food items up his rectum.

Nobody will lose sleep over Saddam being tortured.

But Americans are better than that. We need to set an example to the world that we are not barbaric. Stern, firm, relentless, yes, but barbaric, no. We can't even let the Iraqis do that to Saddam.

But this stupid idea coming out of Bill Bennett and Sean Hannity? , I'm very suprised. After all, who would Jesus Torture? Our Constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment, no matter what the crime.

Torturing Saddam would unleash horriffic anger against any of our troops who might happen to be captured. While it may be fun for sick minds to think about, the reality is that it is about the most stupid thing we could allow to happen.

I only saw/heard parts of both shows and was a bit disturbed by his making it such a prominent subject. I really didn't like the tone.

I found your post well written and informative. And I even agree with your point of view, vis a vis the fact that we are not barbaric. What concerns me is one of your last assertions:

No offense, but I cannot remember our troops being treated with anything but barbarism and horrific anger in any conflict since WWII. Look, as I said above, I fundementally agree with you, but us "being nice" to sadamn won't help our troops...
