Cubans were slowly woken up to the fact that Castro (and now Cuba) was communist and pro-Soviet between 1959 and 1961.

You could say the same thing about American Citizens. I remember.

Thanks! :o)

What bugs me is how many seem to be distinguishing between Baathists and Communists.

Really? On CNN? LOL! I'm glad I'm blissfully ignorant of this, or else I'd be hitting my forehead on my keyboard (again).

I don't think there's a whole lot of distinction to be made.

The "blah blah" is different, but the oppressive and murderous results are the same. History proves that one out.

I hope they realize that Communists will only be pro-democracy until they win their first election.

If the "they" to whom you're referring are the Iraqi people, take heart that many of them are very well educated, and have the ability to act on the basis of their intellects, rather than their emotions. Many others who have various levels of formal education, and others who have little or none, also have the wisdom and common sense to recognize the truth, and act upon it.

I have high hopes for them, and the confidence that they will meet my expectations. I think this is the most fertile land in the whole Middle East (other than Israel, which is already a democracy), upon which democracy can flourish.

By the way, I've been at zeyad's blog, and that of his Uncle Omar, all afternoon - and enjoying every minute of it. Thanks for the excellent links. :o)

It's to take over as soon as we are out.
Not a surprise. They can't start to gain power with us watching, and continued insurgency only lengthens our stay.

I hope he means it about being a hero. I fear he's wrong about not having to search for WMD anymore - this will of course change nothing in the eyes of leftists, who will continue to screech that capturing Saddam means nothing, only WMD matter....

I thought it was very fortunate that Saddam was captured alive, so we could grill him about the WMDs. However, the lastest I'm seeing around the net is that Saddam is being uncooperative during the interrogations.

(via Drudge)

I'd suggest that Dan [I'd]Rather[Not] be brought in to do some interrogating, but torture is outlawed by the Geneva Convention.

did anyone think he'd spill the beans so quick??

In fact we should place his meals 4 feet from his prison door and let him starve unless he talks.

Communists can't touch the Internet without taking on a load of hypocrisy. I find it especially funny the Iraqi Communist Party used MS Frontpage to make their webpage.

Well, now different reports are saying different things, and I can't tell if the man is crazy, or crazy like a fox.

Torture is a tantalizing thought (as in your suggestion, or more), but sleep deprivation does work wonders! :o)

[[Iraq's Communist Party says it wants U.S. troops out soon, plans political comeback AP | 11/26/03 | SLOBODAN LEKIC

"We have always believed that the U.N. has a central role to play. International forces should be under the auspices of the U.N. Security Council with full agreement of the Iraqi government," Ali said."

. Salaam Ali, a member of the Iraqi Communist Party's Central Committee, told The Associated Press that the slowness of the occupation authorities in devising a viable plan for the transfer of authority to an Iraqi government . . .

"If the Americans had listened to us back in May and allowed a national conference to pick a legitimate government. . .Ali said in an interview in his office, where a small, gold colored statue of Lenin stood on the mantle. ]]

Do the Demrats get their talking points from the DNC or the 'ICP'? .

Does Dean have a statue of Lenin on his desk?

If not, why not?

"Makes me wonder about all those who dismissed the possibility of any possible harm coming to GW during his Thanksgiving visit there when a FReeper made that post that could have been used to guess where he was while he was still in the area. Information flies fast these days."

Excellent point! I was not happy about that being posted before he left the area either!

[ The Iraqi CP is a VERY strange bird. A lot of the pro-democracy rallies recently were partly organized by the Iraqi Communist Party. This really has a serious Rod Serling feel to the whole thing. If I didn't know anything else about Communism I'd like these guys! ]

Democracy is the road to socialism. Karl Marx
Democracy is indispensable to socialism. The goal of socialism is communism. V.I. Lenin

Hehehe... well, come on, look at the date, this was the day Saddam was captured! Can you blame someone for getting a little concerned about all those red flags with hammer and sickles on 'em being jouously waved in the news that day, even Fox?!

I know you're kidding, but you gotta admit (assuming you noticed it, of course), that -was- really scary.
