I was wondering what you guys think of the term "Internationalist Socialist" to describe todays current crop of loony liberals. Nationalist Socialists was already taken, and todays crop are certainly anything but Nationalists.

I wish I knew a bit more about the catfight between Stalin and Trotsky. I believe that Stalin pushed for "Socialism in one country" to serve as a model for the world. It was more Marxist than National Socialism, but certainly similar. Trotsky, on the other hand, wanted World Revolution so that socialism was making progress everywhere at once.
I think the National/International fracture is old.
I'll also say that I find it ironic that in the real world, the global marketplace of culture is dominated by American Culture -- the Left hates that. The global marketplace of ideas is dominated by American Ideas -- the Left hates that. The global marketplace of Commercialism is dominated by American Values -- the Left hates that.
And the Left's response? Something called Globalism -- which isn't very popular at all, and which seeks to stop the global economy from progressing.

I think David Horowitz has already coined the phrase Neo-Communists for such as these.

why must we persist with mudslinging, either way?
are all liberals communists/socialists/marxists?
To: dsrtsage
How about "transnational socialists"? You could call them "tranzis" for short.

no they are not all that way, mostly only the ones in power. The rest are merly uninformed, due to our abysmal education system.

They're not just merely uninformed. It's incredible how many of them have no intuitive/critical thinking skills.

Tony Blair and the British Labour Party are dues paying members of the Socialist International. Check out the Socialist International website to verify this. So I guess you could call them International Socialists. Many members of the Democratic Party in the United States are also members, so they would qualify as well for that designation.

I think the Stalin/Trotsky thng was a power play more than an ideological split -- the latter was an added rationalization for the killing that resulted. There are some interesting stories about the Stalinist agents who were sent into Spain to kill Trotskyites fighting for the (socialist) republicans.

The term in vogue on Web logs (i.e., "blogs") is "transnational progressive," or "tranzi" for short.
To: dsrtsage
If the name is too "ad homenem" (sp?) then it doesn't stand a chance of actually making it into the vocabulary. But clearly, there needs to be a new name to identify these people.
Just "Internationalist", as opposed to "patriot", or "American", or whatever get's the point across without being so bad as to prevent people from actually using the word.
