Rummy has the right idea, but due to Congressional resistance it may be impractical. Anyhow, is the 25th slated for Iraq? News to me.

I do not agree that rum has the right idea. He wants to strip the dignity away from the soldiers and esp officers.

Many many people wonder why he despises Army -- esp he despises our Generals and the talk that has been going on for several years now about Rumsfeld, about his despising Army,
goes on in even more circles.

1. readiness is measured by firing range completion, war-simulation training and vehicle readiness. In a war zone, vehicle readiness is supposed to be able to be handled by Corps Support. War simulation exercise is a silly standard for units who are AT WAR. Firing range completion involves rounds down range in which the entire complex of tables might see a tank/bradley/etc. launch about 40 rounds. Let them shoot at something.

2. The entire upper echelon of leaders are now all air advocates. Bush, Rummie, Myers.....all are air people and not ground people. The idea of civilianizing support jobs and turning those slots into new fighting units is simply ignoring the need for more divisions than we have. A division should be a virtually self-sustaining ground force that can penetrate far inland to accomplish deep military ground objectives. It's hard to do that if your "civilian" support decides to quit 'cause it's dangerous.
