I know what you are saying and it is a factor,

but not the only factor.

I know about many things that went on in the Pentagon while Rum and Co. were getting ready for this war (since 1997 and earlier, but in print in 1997.)

Forget the Post, because we know that the enemy is always sniffing for fuel to destroy

but there is a big story abot Rum, Feith, Wolf, Perle and others. And the part that is important now has to do with their wanting to destroy Army and
create a Space and Air Command. And a few spec ops. I have read the Rumsfeld Commission Report and you should too. He was talked into thinking that technology that is very very far away if ever -- is in fact at hand -- for the 2004 election no less.

It is a big can of worms. The rats are jumping ship (Boeing) and believe me Army and its really wonderful culture (I will engage anyone on this gladfly)

is at stake. When I say Rum wolf et al bozos hate Army, I am repeating from many many sources,

but it is easy to see. Yeah right, he wants the Generals to go in; after all he made it to what, Captain?

I understand you have a somewhat negative opinion of Sec. Rumsfeld and many of the other civilians running the Pentagon. I think that here a FR your arguments will be more persuasive if you can skip some of the name calling about these gentlemen.

The idea of civilianizing support jobs and turning those slots into new fighting units ...

Has been done since Reagan. Nothing new. And who cares if Boeing makes a 10% profit off sales to the government? You act like the fix is in.

The Dept of Defense budget was really the only sector of govt that lost dollars post 1989. As manpower decreased and the pot was getting smaller, PRIOR TO 9/11, how would have decided to spend scarce dollars? Additional divisions? For what? There was no need.

Only now we see that additional manpower is needed to fight the terrorist and their sponsor nation(s). And I'll go so far as to say that additional manpower is needed simply to reduce reliance on the Reserves and the Guard.
