Tribute Thread: FReeper "Poet" Has Passed Away
4 December 2003 | Mudboy Slim

Posted on 12/03/2003 9:41:35 PM PST by Mudboy Slim

Today I learned that FreeRepublic's lost a valued contributor and someone I had come to consider a good FRiend. John J. Lindsay (aka "poet") passed into the Lord's kingdom on the 21st of November 2003 at the age of 70. Not only was he a wise commentator on world events, he also wrote some very moving poetry that I was honored to have periodically posted on the Black threads.

I am thankful I got to know him as much as I did and will most certainly miss his participation on FR.com.

Utmost FReegards, Mr. Lindsay...Steve/MUD

Re: Poet
That was an excellant poem, Mud. Thanks for reposting it.
Poet was very talented. I'm sure he is missed by all who knew him. They have my sympathies.

Regards

Hi Mud,

This is sad news. Poet was a wonderful human being.
Often he would write little poems to me and I wrote to him.

I have been thinking about him for severals days now.

A sad day yes, but Poet has gone to a far greater place.

Prayers for Poet and his family.

I would like to thank you Mudboy Slim for posting this tribute thread for my father, aka: Poet.
All of your kind words and prayers are greatly appreciated.
My father was actually in very good health at the time of his passing. He had his hip replaced about 30 years ago, over the years it would "pop out" of it's socket, and he would need to have it reset. This was of course very painful procedure for him. In order to put it back in place they would give him anesthetic, adjust the hip as needed, and we would take him a few hours later. We went through this with him many times over the years, this time however, he never came out of the anesthesia. Other then his hip, he was in very good health and remained active all his life. In fact the hip popped out while he was opening up his comic book store for business that day. So this was a very sudden and traumatic passing for us.
He took great pleasure posting to this site and would often have me sit in while he was getting flamed for his sometimes unpopular views. He really got a kick out of that.
He also loved writting and sharing his poetry with everyone.
Again I want to thank all of you that posted some of his poems. He would have beamed with pride.
We all miss being able to share his wisdom, positive attitude, and loving heart.
John leaves behind a daughter, two sons and four grandchildren. All of us miss him terribly.
On behalf of all us, Thank you all very much.

You're welcome, my FRiend, and thank you for coming back and shedding some light on the circumstances of your father's passing. We spoke a lot on-line these last couple of years and his poetry really shed much light on his viewpoints, but we rarely spoke about his personal life and I regret not getting to know him better that way.

In any event, he will be sorely missed around here and I can only offer my sincere prayers to you and those who knew him the best. He was a really good man.

Poet: "Paradise Lost, Again

Do you remember what John Milton wrote?
a great poem of note,
he called it Paradise Lost,
we now know what that cost

Now a second Paradise is going away
because we’re being led astray
Americans don’t question anymore,
they accept any political whore

How sad, how very sad
to lose the freedoms that we had
what’s that you say?
has my mind gone astray?

Well let’s review what I write,
hopefully it will shed some light
as liberty takes flight,
while the thieves work through the night

I see laws being passed,
assuring our freedom will not last,
done in the name of security,
soon, we’ll no longer be free

They passed the “patriot law”
and finance reform,
each is flawed,
serfdom will be the norm

Free speech will be restricted,
demonstrations interdicted,
a czar will judge our intent,
we’ll wonder where our freedom went

These people are truly evil,
intent on causing upheaval,
in our values system,
fulfilling their mission

Look what they’ve done to our nation
taking over our schools,
they are an aberration,
turning out non-thinking fools

That’s why the Clintons walk free,
also Terry Mac, Reno and Kennedy,
they’re all involved in serious crimes,
yet not one is doing time

The majority have been put to sleep,
having been molded into sheep,
except for us who speak out loud,
refusing to go along with the crowd

Maybe we’ll win, maybe we’ll lose,
it depends on what Americans choose,
will integrity and honor prevail,
will these criminals be sent to jail?

And the beat goes on

Poet's "Exposed"

The liberal will give you a handout
Conservatives, a helping hand
Liberals think you’re just a lout,
a pebble in the shifting sand

They’ll give you a monthly check
just give them your vote
for a few pieces of gold
your dignity has been sold

Liberals want generations
of people on the dole
they want a nation
which has no Soul

We say, we’re born to be free
liberals say, not you, just me
they will provide “security”
but, you must give up liberty

Liberals don’t want God in schools
they give us government tools
propagandizing our children into fools
“teaching” them to “ feel”, not think
placing this nation on the brink

They are in for a surprise
the beast they idolize,
the one they admire
will be cast into the Lake of Fire,
the culmination of Yahweh’s ire

Now don’t get me wrong,
conservatives have gone along,
we’ve made many mistakes
we’re willing to admit
at times we didn’t get it

If there’s one weakness we have,
we accept speeches as salve,
wanting to believe
what we’re told by thieves

They speak of the Lord
striking a chord,
for those of us who believe,
accepting the deceit they weave

It’s time we woke up
no longer drink from their cup
nor let them use us anymore
these political whores

Matters not the label they wear
they don’t really care
they just want us to be there
to vote them in
to continue their corruption
without interruption

Oh my. I didn't know he was that old, he always sounded so hip.

I loved the one he did about the tree hugger that falls out of the tree! I laughed for days on that one.

God bless you poet.

This one really got me for some reason.

You start to realize after a while we're really in a community here, it's not just cyberspace anymore.

"This one really got me for some reason."

Me, too...I was a regular corresponder with CHIEFnegotiator and HeavyD and Angelique, but I'd never got quite as close with them as I did with poet. He was a FRiend, although I never met him...I mean, when I wouldn't FReep fer awhile, he'd FReepMail me to see if everything was going alright. I miss John, and reckon I will fer quite awhile.

"You start to realize after a while we're really in a community here, it's not just cyberspace anymore."

I've had the distinct honor to have met quite a few FReepers in person, and that takes the FRiendships to yet another level. When you can put a face to the Screen Name, it deepens the bond, but yer right about this place being a community, even with those folks you've never met and may never meet.

And should I reach Your Heavenly gate standing in line to hear my fate I pray that my sins are few that I have committed none that are new if so, please forgive that sin in the name of Yashua, please let me in.

Rest in peace, Poet. I'm sure that our Lord has answered your prayer.
