Barbra Streisand: The new Janet Reno
Enter Stage Right ^ | 24 November 2003 | Michael Moriarty

Posted on 11/30/2003 2:56:17 PM PST by Lando Lincoln

An e-mail pen pal from Illinois suggested I write an editorial commemorating my fateful meeting 10 years ago with President Bill Clinton's Attorney General Janet Reno in the Ulysses S. Grant suite of the Willard Hotel in Washington D.C. During that fateful meeting in November 1993, Reno demanded government control of primetime television. That's blatantly unconstitutional.

After mulling over what has happened to Reno since then -- Parkinson's disease, her loss in the Florida Democratic primary campaign, and her dubious achievement award for being listed as number seven in the year-end "Whacko" list -- I felt it would be unfair to pick on her anymore.

However, Barbra Streisand obligingly made herself a target by coming out of the gate with her version of The Reagans' story. By all accounts, she is the new Janet Reno, kicking a man when he's down and, in an editorial, portraying herself as the victim of censorship following CBS' decision to cancel the controversial mini-series.

At Waco, Reno and her Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms posse put the inhabitants of the David Koresh compound through sleep deprivation by playing, at full blast, Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Were Made for Walking! They played it all night. Then they provoked the incineration of 80 men, women and children.

Apparently, Streisand put on her spiked heels and, with a cat o' nine tails, began singing her own version of the angry, feminist's anthem while deliberately trying to tear down a man who's on his knees with Alzheimer's disease. It takes many months of dedication to create propaganda like that. She was obviously very dedicated to the task.

That the former President was almost single-handedly responsible for tearing down the Berlin Wall, freeing millions of Europeans from dictatorship, and did it without firing a shot -- no collateral damage -- hasn't impressed Babs in the least. To me, it was a near miracle, but to the new Janet Reno, it was evidently some kind of personal attack on her.

If Streisand were a card-carrying member of the Communist Party, I might understand. However, her eager participation in the National Democratic Committee's successful effort to have Mario Cuomo thrown out of the loop in 1990 -- he's Catholic, you know, and not really in the inner circle -- thereby engineering Clinton's nomination as the Democrat candidate for President… well, it all adds up to a few of the reasons I left my job, my city, my home, my marriage and my country and moved to Canada.

Streisand's claims of censorship, after CBS politely allowed her tripe to air on its franchise channel Showtime, sticks in the craw of a man who faced real censorship at the hands of the Clinton administration. I was, at the last minute, yanked from two talk shows -- the Today Show and Tom Brokaw's Dateline NBC, and then told my possible debate with the censorship-loving Senator Kent Conrad would be replaced by the censorship- loving head of the Federal Communications Commission. "That's the only day he can make it to New York." So, basically get rid of Moriarty's defense of free speech on television.

NBC, the network airing the series Law and Order, in which I starred for four years, suddenly turned its back on me and on their constitutional responsibilities as well. NBC had me quickly replaced, behind my back, with Sam Waterston. I had to learn, from a Manhattan reporter, that my own agency, ICM, would not be losing the seven-figure income that would have been due me in a fifth year. Ten percent of one million dollars is not chump change.

My anger at Janet Reno has cooled down over the years. I'm enjoying a peaceful retirement up here in British Columbia, sharing my memories -- a considerable number of them -- with my family and friends. I really don't need the headache again.

However, Streisand came back from the wings of her Hollywood mansion and kept up her desire to be the female Frank Sinatra and actually out-do him. Not only would she be a kingmaker by getting Clinton elected, she would be a king- destroyer by tearing down the best Republican President since Theodore Roosevelt. Actually, from viewing what President Reagan achieved in terms of freeing so many people from Communist slavery, he does have the touch of another great Republican -- Abraham Lincoln.

It's a talent of the left to make their political opponents take the blame for sins the Democratic Party has been engaged in for decades. However, Oliver Stone's film on Richard Nixon had the extraordinary genius of the greatest actor in the English- speaking world, Sir Anthony Hopkins, who expanded a basically pathetic man to Shakespearean dimensions. I doubt if the same thing will be true of Streisand's film on Ronald Reagan.

I met Streisand for 10 minutes on the set of Children of Fortune, one of her husband's movies of the week. Neither of us could possibly like each other. That became evident rather quickly.

Ms. Streisand, you told me that you had asked Katherine Hepburn, a veteran of the Stratford Bard Festival, if she'd "ever done Shakespeare." I replied, after having worked with Ms. Hepburn, that it would be like asking you, "Did you ever sing, Ms. Streisand?"

Your question to the Reagans, "Have you ever done anything good for America?" will have the same resounding, angry response from the entire North American public as the one you've just received from me.

Michael Moriarty is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actor who has appeared in the landmark television series Law and Order, the mini-series Holocaust, and the recent mini-series Taken. In 2002 he won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his work in James Dean.

One of the artistic FReepers among us should take this photo and substitute Reno for Willy.

Is it just me, or does Slick Will look uncomfortable at having Barbra's hands in his pits?

Sorry, Barbara Streisand is no Janet Reno. Get real. This article makes light of the evil that Janet Reno perpetrated, including incinerating those Waco people, and the Elian Gonzalez affair, by comparing her to a foolish actress who has no real power, political connections notwithstanding.

This article deserves a "hyperbole bump".

Thanks for the article. Favorite line, "Ms Streisand, do you sing?" I had never heard of this site, although I vaguely remembered the actor from the old "Holocaust" mini- series. I am not sure what he meant by "...leaving my wife", sounds like there is a story there...

For more info, I checked out his fan site here Oh, look- another Fulbright scholar...but this one seems to have survived with his reason intact.

Obviously, Streisand has no power and never had any. Reno had some. I agree with the hyperbole bump.

I heard that Streisand's anger with Reagan centers on her son's HIV positive status. She blames Reagan for not doing enough to prevent AIDS from spreading. I understand being angry that one's son is infected with a fatal disease. The reasoning process behind blaming Reagan is only sound if you think he could have done something to prevent it. Practically speaking, yes, he could. But would the libs have swallowed THAT?

Yes, Reagan could have brought the spread of HIV to a virtual standstill. He could have put everybody who is HIV-positive in camps after mandatory testing, and sealed the borders to HIV-positives and those whose behavior puts them at risk for being carriers not yet testing postiive. Now just imagine how the libs would have screamed at THAT. Imagine the Congress we had then letting it stand, imagine the Supreme Court letting him do it. But it would have WORKED! And saved lives.

She would have done better to have advised her son to avoid intravenous recreational drugs and have only monogamous, married, heterosexual sex regardless of his appetites or predisposition--or do without. That's how you avoid catching HIV today, as an individual. As a society, we'd have to isolate everyone who has it. And nobody is willing to do that.

It's easier to blame Reagan!

Babs is a perfect example of a head on collision! Time they buried the corpse. From her picture, it's easy to see she has stopped breathing. Oh well, you did supply some comedy to an otherwise dull day. Bless ya!

good post

(doubt all following as hearsay from media):

average cost of an AIDS case - $1,000,000+

average length of a "longtime companion" affair - 18 months

average annual dying from AIDS - 60,000-130,000 (other reasons are always given in obits!)

many "gay?" men have over 150 homosexual partners in just one year

Fun Question: ask a physician what he would do if an known AIDS/TB infected person coughed/sneezed in his/her face on an elevator

A - Nothing
B - Smile and say "God Bless You!"
C - Hand him/her a purple lace hanky
D - Ask him/her over for drinks
E - Pray
F - Call your AIDS specialist buddy fast
G - Make out a will
H - Send a donation to GLAD
I - All of the above

(watch their face after asking them that)

A Board Certified physician in NYC gave me the above

Ready to back "Homosexual Marriages" and "full partner medical rights" now?

The good news about STDs is that they're so hard to catch that it requires very intimate contact to transmit it. So there's really no excuse for a gay HIV activist to have 150 sex partners in a year. If they're doing that, they're not at all serious about HIV, and I don't see why MY pocketbook should go to finance them.

There are reasonable and unreasonable risks, and 150 sex partners in a year (if that figure is at all meaningful--wouldn't you get TIRED of it???) is certainly unreasonable!

Physicians say increased high-risk unprotected homosexual sex is increasing dramatically, not dropping.

Many homosexuals seem to associate high risk with sexual satisfaction, much as a drug users initially do.

As this is 100% voluntary choice and action, they are well aware that this often gets spread by bi-sexuals to womem, children, babies, and hetrosexual men.

The fact that homos are demanding and sneaking in blood from homosexuals into the world's blood banks is evidence that many have a insane hidden desire and agenda to infect normal hetrosexuals with their killer monkey disease.

Years back TB infected patients were by statute committed to TB sanitariums until their TB was arrested.

Today because so many AIDS homos contract TB they are allowed to freely roam our public streets and spread TB and worse.

PC run amuck.

150 male homo partners in one year is obviously insane and unreasonable, but who says any unprotected "volunteer" is/was sane or resonable.

The disease is in their minds.

The contagion is our politicians.

No rancher is allowed to let Anthrax or Blackleg infected cattle to mix with healthy cattle.

I should know; I raised Brahma and dairy cattle in south Florida.

The US Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Health mandate not their "cure" in a sanitarium.

You know what their laws and regulations require.

The longer an AIDS infected person remains free to roam and "interact" in society the more innocent uinfected hetrosexual citizens will die.

The longer society prolongs the life of AIDS infected persons, the more they will infect with killer AIDS.

There is bo cure for AIDS.

There is no cure for Anthrax.

Don't wait for a cure; it is not coming. AIDS adapts and mutates.

As homosexuals and liberals do.

But the AIDS homo will live a longer and more "entertaining" life.

That is what counts.

Sensitivity!

(see: Africa, AIDS infection sand death rates)

All sing "I Want to Teach The World To Sing" now!
