They should have kept that 4 or 5 story spike of wall with windows and facade that remained standing after the collapse was over. That would have been a stark and fitting reminder of the horror of the attack.

I'm with you, at least the memorial should have rebuilt that
girder and beam section left standing, hell they could have done it right from the photos.(to make it safe I mean)
That and a memorial flame what else do we need?

Absolutely right. That preserved charred fragment, along with a simple list of names, could, by itself, redeem almost any of the unbearably meaningless and contentless designs.
