As I recall, Lindbergh was accused of being more of a Nazi-lover than a Commie-lover.

Lindbergh, as well as dozens of major media and industrial giants in the 1930s...were supporters of Germany. They all felt that Germany was going in a positive direction and rebuilding. Even as 1942 comes around...most of these characters were still pro-Germany...they simply kept their mouth shut.

What makes this a fascinating story...is that Lindbergh did not take up with a famous actress or bankers daughter...she was simply a hatmaker. The other interesting thing...is this kind of affair would be impossible to carry out today.
